A radical Islamic terrorist, allegedly struggling with his own sexual identity, slaughters 49 people and wounds another 53 at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Some members within the LGBT community respond not by rallying to stop terrorism or confront a faction within a religion that has a long history of being hostile toward gays, but by directing their ire at firearms \u2014 arguably, the only thing that actually stops rampage killers from singling out and murdering people because of their lifestyle choices, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc.<\/p>\n

Does that make sense to you?<\/p>\n

What if we put this in a different context.\u00a0 <\/span>To borrow an analogy from Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, if your sheep farm has a wolf problem, would you muzzle your sheepdogs to effectively defang them, thus removing their ability to fight back against the wolves?\u00a0 <\/span>Hell no!\u00a0 <\/span>If anything, you put more sheepdogs on patrol to protect the roving flock and, if need be, confront the wolves.<\/p>\n

What is not evident to many advocates of gun control is that the universal language of predators is violence.\u00a0 The way to stop predators is to prosecute violence against them, i.e. using force, including deadly force, if necessary. \u00a0 <\/span>When they advocate for tougher gun laws or bans on commonly owned and widely popular firearms, they are attempting to put a muzzle on the sheepdogs, the good guys with guns.<\/p>\n

It\u2019 doesn\u2019t make sense.\u00a0 <\/span>Gun control only makes it easier for predators to kill at will.<\/p>\n

What GAG stands for.<\/p><\/div>\n

With this in mind, meet the latest gun control group, GAG, or Gays Against Guns.\u00a0 <\/span>Recently, the group held a march down Fifth Avenue in New York City as part of a larger Gay Pride event.<\/p>\n

To protest Congress\u2019s inaction with respect to passing more gun control, the GAG members performed a \u201cdie-in,\u201d a way to remember the victims of the Orlando shooting.\u00a0 Forty-nine members marched in white garments and veils, each carrying a sign with a name and age of a particular victim.\u00a0 <\/span>During the march, none of the participants spoke.\u00a0 <\/span>It was their way to honor those killed by the terrorist.<\/p>\n

“Our stance is a gut one.\u00a0 We’re outraged and we think something has to change.\u00a0 We’re in agreement with the consensus of most of the gun control lobby that there’s no place for civilians to have assault weapons,” GAG spokesman Tim Murphy told NBC OUT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Orlando was such a combination of homophobia enabled by this national crisis of such easy access to assault weapons,” he said.<\/p>\n

New York City Council Member Corey Johnson, an openly gay man, applauded the GAG march.<\/p>\n

“[GAG] is taking this fight to the [National Rifle Association’s] front door.\u00a0 Our community has been fighting for gun control as part of other organizations for many years, now we’re starting our own,” he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Again, banning AR-15s would not stop terrorists, nor would banning all guns.\u00a0 <\/span>Terrorists, those hellbent on taking innocent lives, will always find a way.\u00a0 <\/span>So, GAG is just another misguided operation acting on emotion rather than reason.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, there are those within the LGBT community who see the world for what it is. \u00a0They recognize that there will always be predators. \u00a0For, example,\u00a0The Pink Pistols<\/a> have been around more than a decade. They firmly believe in encouraging more LGBT members to carry firearms for self-defense.<\/p>\n

Recently, Rolling Stone talked to some of the members for an article titled, “Pink Pistols: LGBT Gun Owners Unite in Arming Gay Community<\/a>.”\u00a0 Hear what 71-year-old Pink Pistol member Tom Nelson had to say about the matter.<\/p>\n

“One of my greatest sorrows in dealing with the gay community is that they’re willing to hold a candlelight vigil for people who are beaten up, stabbed, or shot, but they’re not willing to protect those people,” said Nelson, a mechanical engineer, and former gun designer.\u00a0 A vigil may help the community come together, but “it doesn’t do a damn bit of good for the guy who was shot, stabbed, or beaten.”<\/p>\n

“There seems to be an unwillingness to admit that we need to teach people to defend themselves,” he continued.\u00a0 “I’m sorry, but begging for mercy from someone who is attacking you is not going to solve the problem.”<\/p>\n

Amen. \u00a0Mr. Nelson gets it. \u00a0So do the other members of the Pink Pistols. \u00a0In the wake of Orlando, as more LGBT members consider their options, let’s hope they choose to be sheepdogs.\u00a0 We already have too many sheep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
