Mike Hagan thinks you\u2019re setting your sights too low.<\/p>\n<p>Hagan owns Hagan&#8217;s Motor Pool Auto Repair and Sales in Rochester, NH, and has been offering a free AR-15 to his customers since May. His promotion has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2016\/06\/19\/new-hampshire-car-dealerships-latest-promotion-buy-a-car-get-an-ar\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"best-used-car-promotion-ever-buy-car-get-ar\" title=\"Best Used Car Promotion Ever? 'Buy a car, get an AR'\">received attention<\/a> in the wake of the Orlando terrorist attack, though the shooter in that instance used a Sig Sauer MCX \u2013 not an AR-15.<\/p>\n<p>All of Hagan\u2019s customers also have to pass a background check at a local gun store before receiving their firearm. \u201cIf they don\u2019t pass, they don\u2019t get a firearm,\u201d Hagan told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local-news\/2016\/06\/17\/nh-car-dealership-ar15\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"best-used-car-promotion-ever-buy-car-get-ar\" title=\"Best Used Car Promotion Ever? 'Buy a car, get an AR'\">Boston.com<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hagan\u2019s buyers choose their firearm at the gun store and send Hagan the receipt. He does not keep the weapons on his property, and customers can choose to receive a handgun if they prefer.<\/p>\n<p>None of this, of course, has stopped the media from drawing attention to Hagan\u2019s promotion. The Boston.com article highlighted one Facebook commenter who whined, \u201cYou honestly trust any citizen to be responsible with one purely based on their ability to purchase a car? What kind of NH resident NEEDS one [of] these for protection?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A local NH resident, Jen Marks, piled it higher: \u00a0\u201cTo me that\u2019s just getting more of the nutjobs out to do even more harm to people that don\u2019t deserve it,\u201d she said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nh1.com\/news\/update-rochester-car-dealer-s-free-ar-15-promotion-criticized-amid-orlando-massacre\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"best-used-car-promotion-ever-buy-car-get-ar\" title=\"Best Used Car Promotion Ever? 'Buy a car, get an AR'\">NH1-TV<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>Some have even accused Hagan of bigotry towards the LGBT community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the negative feedback has accused me of being bigoted towards certain sexual orientations,\u201d Hagan said in a Facebook post. \u201cAnyone who knows me, knows this is the farthest thing from the truth. I believe regardless of race, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or any of that, you have a right to defend yourself. I believe in equality, and by learning how to properly and responsibly operate a firearm you make yourself equal with all who would attempt to attack you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Hagan\u2019s comments align with certain members of the LGTB community who promote Second Amendment rights as a means to defend against attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The Pink Pistols, an \u201cinternational LGBT self-defense organization,\u201d released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinkpistols.org\/2016\/06\/12\/pink-pistols-saddened-by-attack-on-orlando-club\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"best-used-car-promotion-ever-buy-car-get-ar\" title=\"Best Used Car Promotion Ever? 'Buy a car, get an AR'\">a statement<\/a> in the wake of the Orlando attack encouraging people \u201cnot to jump immediately to the assailant\u2019s guns as the object of blame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is exactly the kind of heinous act that justifies our existence,\u201d said Gwendolyn Patton, First Speaker of the Pink Pistols. \u201cAt such a time of tragedy, let us not reach for the low-hanging fruit of blaming the killer\u2019s guns. Let us stay focused on the fact that someone hated gay people so much they were ready to kill or injure so many. A human being did this. The human being\u2019s tools are unimportant when compared to the bleakness of that person\u2019s soul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hagan agreed. When asked if he\u2019s worried about his customers using their guns to commit crimes, he said, \u201cI could worry about the same thing with a car being used to hurt other people.
