NRA exec. vice president Wayne LaPierre delivered one heck of a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, MD, this week.<\/p>\n
Now, Wayne isn\u2019t known for being a great speaker. For good reason. He\u2019s not. He\u2019s awkward, he stumbles over words, he looks really intense all the time \u2014 even when he\u2019s trying to be sarcastic. Overall, he just doesn\u2019t have a great stage presence.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s okay, because what LaPierre lacks in style or flow, he more than makes up in substance. That\u2019s right. His 2016 CPAC speech \u2014 aided by the occasional video interlude \u2014 made some very substantive and persuasive points on a range of gun-related issues. Below are some of the highlights.<\/p>\n
On Hillary Clinton\u2019s ability to pick a Supreme Court Justice:<\/strong><\/p>\n “Hillary Rodham Clinton couldn\u2019t pass a polygraph, but she\u2019s already got a litmus test [for picking the next Supreme Court justice]. And she flunks both!”<\/em><\/p>\n On Trump-style rhetoric in the debates:<\/strong><\/p>\n “This election year proves the rage of the American people to be real and powerful. Candidates, strategists and pundits are learning that telling it like it <\/em>is brings success. Straight talk brings reward. Heck, I learned that in kindergarten. Truth counts. Truth matters. Truth endures.”<\/em><\/p>\n On the NRA\u2019s call to have armed security at schools following Sandy Hook:<\/strong><\/p>\n “As a result, millions of our children go to school today, no longer the sitting ducks of the worst and most dangerous of all lies \u2014 gun-free zones. The news media, protected by their own armed security, will never admit it but, today, millions of children are safer for one reason \u2014 the NRA.”<\/em><\/p>\n On the tried and true way to stop evildoers:<\/strong><\/p>\n
