{"id":53573,"date":"2016-02-23T14:26:38","date_gmt":"2016-02-23T19:26:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=53573"},"modified":"2016-02-23T14:26:38","modified_gmt":"2023-08-19T04:44:19","slug":"california-videotape-gun-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/california-videotape-gun-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"California Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Videotape all Gun Sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_53575\" style=\"width: 257px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/01.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-videotape-gun-sales\" title=\"California Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Videotape all Gun Sales\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53575\" title=\"California Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Videotape all Gun Sales\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-53575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/01-247x300.jpg\" alt=\"Assemblyman Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento). \" width=\"247\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/01-247x300.jpg 247w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/01-123x150.jpg 123w, https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/01.jpg 619w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 247px) 100vw, 247px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), wants to force gun dealers to record all sales on camera.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In an effort to \u201cincrease transparency in gun sales,\u201d California Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) introduced a bill last week \u2014 AB 2459 \u2014 that would ban residential gun sales, require all gun sales be recorded on video, mandate gun dealers to hold insurance and empower the Attorney General to enforce these proposed laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a local elected official, I authored successful measures to crack down on illegal gun and ammunition sales,\u201d stated Assemblymember McCarty in a <a href=\"https:\/\/asmdc.org\/members\/a07\/news-room\/press-releases\/assemblymember-mccarty-announces-legislation-to-increase-transparency-in-gun-sales\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-videotape-gun-sales\" title=\"California Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Videotape all Gun Sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cAs a State Assemblymember, I am proud to author AB 2459, which I believe will have a strong impact statewide in the effort to keep guns out of the wrong hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarty\u2019s bill has the support of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a pro-gun control organization based out of San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirearms dealers are subject to very little federal oversight and are a major source of trafficked guns,\u201d stated Juliet Leftwich, the LCPGV legal director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill will help ensure that firearms dealers in California operate responsibly by requiring them to videotape all gun sales, obtain liability insurance and conduct business from a commercial storefront,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have worked with cities and counties throughout the state on similar laws for decades and applaud Assemblymember McCarty for his leadership in bringing this important measure to the Legislature,\u201d concluded Leftwich.<\/p>\n<p>One will recall that last year San Francisco instated a law requiring all gun stores within the city\u2019s limits to videotape gun sales and turn the footage over to the police within a week of the sale along with the names, addresses and birth dates of the buyers.<\/p>\n<h2>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/how-gun-laws-killed-san-franciscos-last-gun-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-videotape-gun-sales\" title=\"California Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Videotape all Gun Sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HOW GUN LAWS KILLED SAN FRANCISCO\u2019S LAST GUN STORE<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>This legislation is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/how-gun-laws-killed-san-franciscos-last-gun-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-videotape-gun-sales\" title=\"California Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Videotape all Gun Sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what pushed San Francisco\u2019s last remaining <\/a>gun store, Highbridge Arms, out of the city. The owner of the store refused to comply with this Big Brother harassment of law-abiding gun owners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe element we\u2019re concerned with, they don\u2019t shop here. They don\u2019t,\u201d said the store\u2019s owner, Steve Alcairo. \u201cI mean you\u2019re going to get video surveillance of people who are coming in here legally buying stuff with their identification, criminals are not doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, McCarty and his cohorts want to take this insanity statewide. \u00a0The question is why?
