On Oliver\u2019s website the bill is touted as a \u201cdebate [that] Georgia needs\u2026about these weapons which are only used for rapidly killing people. Assault weapons are not necessary for deer hunting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to banning magazines that hold more than ten rounds and a laundry list of rifles, handguns, and shotguns, the bill conspires to prohibit \u201carmor-piercing bullets, and incendiary .50 caliber bullets,\u201d and to \u201cprovide for enhanced penalties for the possession and use of machine guns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While legislator seeking to ban scary-looking firearms and magazines that hold more than ten rounds in the name of public safety is nothing new, calling for outright seizure of such weapons is a bold move. Their aim is not to cut down on crime\u2014no one uses .50 caliber incendiary rounds for petty theft\u2014it is to criminalize gun ownership.<\/p>\n<h2>See Also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/california-ban-bullet-button\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"georgia-lawmakers-introduce-bill-to-ban-seize-assault-weapons\" title=\"Georgia Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Ban, Seize 'Assault Weapons'\">Proposed California Gun Control Bill to Ban Bullet Button<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Since this doesn\u2019t have a snowball\u2019s chance in Hell of passing\u2014this is the state that approved of the<a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/claireehealey\/2014\/07\/01\/georgia-guns-everywhere-bill-takes-effect-n1857739\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"georgia-lawmakers-introduce-bill-to-ban-seize-assault-weapons\" title=\"Georgia Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Ban, Seize 'Assault Weapons'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u201cguns everywhere\u201d bill<\/a> two years ago\u2014the least we can do is thank these Democrats for being partially honest: they don\u2019t want you to have these firearms and they are willing to use the full force of government to take them from you. And, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/Legislation\/en-US\/display\/20152016\/HB\/731\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"georgia-lawmakers-introduce-bill-to-ban-seize-assault-weapons\" title=\"Georgia Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Ban, Seize 'Assault Weapons'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the bill<\/a>, the punishment is severe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo person shall possess, distribute, transport, transfer, or sell any assault weapon,\u201d the bill reads. \u201cAny person who distributes, transports, or imports an assault weapon into this state\u00a0shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment\u00a0for not less than two nor more than ten years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny person who possesses a large capacity magazine on or after January 1, 2017, that\u00a0was obtained by such person prior to July 1, 2016, shall be fined not more than $100 for\u00a0a first offense and shall be guilty of a felony for any subsequent offense,\u201d the bill reads. \u201cAny person who possesses a large capacity magazine on or after January 1, 2017, that\u00a0was obtained by such person on or after July 1, 2016, shall be guilty of a felony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill even has a provision to cover if your \u201cassault weapon\u201d is somehow legally owned: any person who fails to report a stolen legal assault weapon to the GBI within 72 hours \u201cshall be fined not more than $90 for the first offense and shall be guilty of a felony for any subsequent offense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the first step toward the left openly stating that they would approve of gun seizure.
