In a recent ad, titled, \u201cI\u2019m With Him,\u201d Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton wholeheartedly backed President Obama\u2019s recent executive orders to reduce gun violence<\/del> chill the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn average of 90 people are killed in this country every single day. It has to stop,\u201d said Clinton in the ad, which appeared during the president\u2019s State of the Union address.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to pick a side,\u201d she continued. \u201cEither we stand with the gun lobby or we join the President and stand up to them. I\u2019m with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ad is a tacit potshot at Bernie Sanders, who is closing in on Clinton\u2019s lead in the Iowa polls. Sanders, in the past, voted in favor of a sensible bill — The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act <\/a>— that shields gun manufacturers and dealers from lawsuits when criminals use their products.<\/p>\n

Both Clinton and Obama want to remove that measure to open up the gun industry to all sorts of frivolous lawsuits.<\/p>\n

Sanders initially defended his vote by drawing an analogy to a hammer company, arguing that we don\u2019t allow lawsuits against a hammer maker if someone uses it as a weapon. But it didn\u2019t take too long for Bernie to soften his tune, particularly because Hillary has been hammering<\/em> him on the issue.<\/p>\n

“Look, I’ve cast over 10,000 votes in my life, and many pieces of legislation are complicated. They have good stuff in it. They have bad stuff in it,” Sanders told ABC \u201cThis Week.\u201d<\/p>\n

“I am absolutely willing to take another look at that legislation and get rid of the onerous provisions,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhen gun manufacturers, for example, are selling guns into an area and know that those guns are getting into the hands of criminals, absolutely, those gun manufacturers should be held accountable.”<\/p>\n

However, Clinton continues to say that his explanation doesn\u2019t go far enough. That Bernie is soft on gun control.<\/p>\n

“I think he has been consistently refusing to say that he would vote to repeal this absolute immunity from any kind of responsibility or liability,” Clinton said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”<\/p>\n
