I love when the uninformed weigh in on gun control because through their ignorance they indubitably hang themselves, rhetorically, in the eyes of any reasonable person. When debating them the best thing to do is allow them to keep talking because eventually they\u2019ll say something so stupid that their argument will be irreparably undermined. In short, you just have to wait for them to put their foot in their mouth.<\/p>\n
Recently, \u201cThe View\u201d panelist, Whoopi Goldberg went on a rant about \u201cautomatic weapons,\u201d and why the government ought to heavily regulate them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t understand why anyone objects to getting rid of automatic weapons,\u201d exclaimed Goldberg. \u201cAutomatic weapons, they\u2019re not for hunting. They do nothing \u2014 they\u2019re only there to kill. And you\u2019ll notice that a lot of the things that have happened have happened with automatic weapons. When we see that why don\u2019t we say, \u2018Who really needs to have one other than people that are at war?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Yes, a profoundly ignorant statement. Thankfully, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was there to help set the record straight.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we have is not automatic weapons. It\u2019s semi-automatic,\u201d said Paul. \u201cSo they fire in a fairly fast sequence, but you can\u2019t pull the trigger and they come like a machine gun. Those are no longer out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Unfazed by her ignorance, Goldberg persisted, \u201cBut you know what I’m saying,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
If I was there, I would have stopped right there and said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t know what you\u2019re saying because you clearly have no idea what you\u2019re talking about.\u201d But Sen. Paul was a bit more patient.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat there is, is, there’s a repetitive fire,\u201d explained Pau. \u201cPeople do hunt with them and people do also shooting and sports shooting and target shooting and things with these guns.
