Yes, All of Them\u2019\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Not to be outdone by the New York Times editorial board, which recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/ny-times-calls-for-gun-bans-eliminating-categories-of-weapons-ammunition\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-republic-its-time-to-ban-guns-yes-all-of-them\" title=\"New Republic: \u2018It\u2019s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them\u2019\">called<\/a> for banning \u201ccertain kinds of weapons\u201d and \u201cammunition,\u201d The New Republic<a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/125498\/its-time-ban-guns-yes-them\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-republic-its-time-to-ban-guns-yes-all-of-them\" title=\"New Republic: \u2018It\u2019s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them\u2019\"> published an article <\/a>this past week that called for a ban of ALL firearms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBan guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police,\u201d wrote Phoebe Maltz Bovy. \u201cBan guns! Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maltz Bovy\u2019s article is less about what\u2019s possible and more about establishing a place on the gun-debate spectrum for a \u201cban all guns\u201d camp. Right now, there is no gun-control organization, candidate or movement that is publicly calling for a complete ban on all firearms. Sure, we have those that want to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradycampaign.org\/content\/restricting-assault-weapons-high-capacity-magazine-regulations\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-republic-its-time-to-ban-guns-yes-all-of-them\" title=\"New Republic: \u2018It\u2019s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them\u2019\">ban modern sporting rifles <\/a>and even one that during its <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coalition_to_Stop_Gun_Violence\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-republic-its-time-to-ban-guns-yes-all-of-them\" title=\"New Republic: \u2018It\u2019s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them\u2019\">nascency wanted to ban handguns<\/a>, but currently, there is no group or candidate or movement calling for total civil disarmament.<\/p>\n<p>The point of the article was to change that reality, to start a movement that calls publicly for a total repeal of the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the pro-gun-control side of things, there\u2019s far too much timidity,\u201d wrote Maltz Bovy. \u201cWhat\u2019s needed to stop all gun violence is a vocal ban guns contingent. Getting bogged down in discussions of what\u2019s feasible keeps what needs to happen\u2014no more guns\u2014from entering the realm of possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublic opinion needs to shift,\u201d she continues. \u201cThe no-guns stance needs to be an identifiable place on the spectrum, embraced unapologetically, if it\u2019s to be reckoned with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, she wants to normalize the \u201cno-guns\u201d position. To say it\u2019s a lofty goal would be a gross understatement. There are reasons why even the most ardent anti-gunner doesn\u2019t publicly support total civil disarmament (sure, they may behind closed doors, but in public it\u2019s different story). Let\u2019s examine why the no-guns position hasn&#8217;t gained traction in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>For starters, anyone pitching a no-guns platform is a complete idiot \u2014 and is seen as such. Guns exist. They\u2019re part of the world we live in. And they\u2019re not going away. The toothpaste is out of the tube and there\u2019s no putting it back in, so to speak. Every sensible person acknowledges this fact, irrespective of their view on guns. To suggest that we can somehow eliminate all the guns in the country is an exercise in idiocy because it\u2019s a view that is completely detached from reality. Without a magic wand, there is simply no way to eradicate the 300-plus million guns in this country. It\u2019s just not possible.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, for the sake of argument, let\u2019s suppose that gun-grabbers did have a magic wand and they were able to go <em>poof!<\/em> and make all the guns currently in existence disappear. That still wouldn\u2019t be the end of firearms. I hate to break it to Ms. Phoebe, but guns aren\u2019t the most complicated tools to make. And with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/why-gun-control-is-ultimately-doomed-to-fail\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"new-republic-its-time-to-ban-guns-yes-all-of-them\" title=\"New Republic: \u2018It\u2019s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them\u2019\">advent of 3-D printers<\/a>, it\u2019s only gotten easier for budding gunsmiths to learn the trade. Like it or not, destroying existing firearms wouldn\u2019t stop the production of new firearms. Thanks to readily available technology, firearms are here to stay.<\/p>\n<p>But okay, let\u2019s suppose that instead of resorting to magic, gun-grabbers were really serious about enacting a \u201cno guns\u201d policy even though they knew that it wouldn&#8217;t last, for the aforementioned reasons, but wanted to try it anyhow. What would it take for them to pull it off? Well, it goes without saying but it would be a logistical nightmare. Think about the manpower and money it would take to go door-to-door to the homes of the nation\u2019s 100 million gun owners, round up their hardware and confiscate it. Then, of course, there is the issue of resistance. Last time I checked, gun owners weren\u2019t too keen on the idea of surrendering their firearms. Quite simply put, a no-guns policy is a recipe for a revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, the no-guns policy is out-of-touch with reality, it\u2019s not possible because of existing technology and it would ultimately spark a revolution, but aside from that, there is a more fundamental reason that it hasn\u2019t gained traction amongst the political class or advocacy groups. That is because even the most hardened anti-gun lawmaker recognizes that the vast majority of Americans know that the Second Amendment wasn\u2019t accidentally enshrined in our Constitution, it has a real purpose, and that the country has rich tradition of gun ownership, which has been used for defense against tyranny, hunting, sports shooting and personal self-defense. Put more succinctly, voters know that the core freedoms and values of this country were established and secured by men with guns. Ergo, we have a deep and abiding respect for the right to keep and bear arms. \u00a0We love our guns!<\/p>\n<p>It would be political suicide for a candidate to support a \u201cno guns\u201d policy. \u00a0It would be tantamount to spitting on the Constitution and the proud traditions of this country. It would be like a candidate running on a \u201cno religion\u201d policy or a \u201cno free\u201d speech policy. A \u201cno guns\u201d policy is at odds with everything the country stands for.<\/p>\n<p>Long story short, \u201cno guns\u201d is a no go. I suppose I didn\u2019t have to break it down in as much detail as I did, I could\u2019ve stopped at the idiocy argument and made my point. But I wanted to make sure that in the off chance that\u00a0Maltz Bovy ponders why her quest to terminate the 2A was (and will be) largely ignored, she&#8217;d have a substantive explanation to refer to. \u00a0Call it a public service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ban guns.
