VP Wayne LaPierre: &#8216;How to Stop Violent Crime&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre has a simple, common sense approach to stopping violent crime: Enforce existing laws!!!<\/p>\n<p>In a Youtube video published yesterday, LaPierre laid out exactly what Obama should do if he really wants to tackle gun-related crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the president held a press conference tomorrow morning and directed every federal jurisdiction to round up every felon with a gun, drug dealer with a gun and criminal gangbanger with a gun, law enforcement would have thousands of violent thugs in handcuffs and squad cars by sundown,&#8221; said LaPierre.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Obama) has all the laws he needs to stop the bloodshed now. Under the existing federal gun laws, he could take every felon with a gun, drug dealer with a gun and criminal gangbanger with a gun off the streets tomorrow and lock them up for five years or more. But he won\u2019t do it, his justice department won\u2019t do it, and the media never asks why,&#8221; continued LaPierre.<\/p>\n<p>Well, I guess I don&#8217;t really count as part of the &#8220;media,&#8221; but I&#8217;ve certainly asked why the government doesn&#8217;t do more to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/the-one-gun-violence-statistic-that-no-one-wants-to-talk-about\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nra-exec-vp-wayne-lapierre-how-to-stop-violent-crime\" title=\"NRA Exec. VP Wayne LaPierre: 'How to Stop Violent Crime'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> target gang culture<\/a>, specifically within the African American community. \u00a0 Compared to their white peers, young black men are five times more likely to be gunned downed! But I digress.<\/p>\n<p>LaPierre continued by touting the gun lobby&#8217;s efforts to support legislation that would bring down the hammer on bad guys with guns.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">\u201cThe NRA has demanded the strongest possible prosecution of the federal gun laws for over 20 years. Our repeated calls have been met by deafening silence from Washington\u2019s elites,&#8221; said LaPierre. \u00a0&#8220;President Obama and Hillary Clinton and other politicians use the carnage to campaign for more gun laws they won\u2019t and don\u2019t enforce.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I thought this was a pretty good video by Wayne. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been critical of him in the past for sounding and looking like a wide-eyed zealot. \u00a0But in this video, he comes across as level-headed, thoughtful and persuasive. \u00a0I don&#8217;t think it will turn off moderate gun owners or make the non-gun owning public\u00a0say, &#8220;This guy is crazy!&#8221; \u00a0Instead, they might just say, &#8220;This guy has a point!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But not everyone enjoyed the video. \u00a0Ladd Everitt, communications director for The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, delivered a blistering critique.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are sick and tired of is this despicable monster Wayne LaPierre and Ackerman McQueen executives like Melanie Hill who have made millions upon millions off gun proliferation and the suffering it causes across America,&#8221; said Everitt, in a correspondence to GunsAmerica.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This blatantly racist video (with its images of black faces as &#8216;violent thugs&#8217; and tribute to the &#8216;good-honest Americans&#8217; on Oklahoma and Nebraska farms) is unlikely to move anyone who doesn&#8217;t view Fox News as gospel,&#8221; continued\u00a0Everitt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The one comfort is that future generations will name LaPierre and his soulless executive helpers as the cause of this horrific epidemic,&#8221; concluded Everitt.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, Mr. Everitt\u00a0and I don&#8217;t see eye to eye on the video or LaPierre or the NRA.
