(<em>Photo: Ortiz<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It seems like anti-gunners in New York never run out of ways to chill the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, a Brooklyn Democrat, touted his<a href=\"https:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/leg\/?bn=A5864&amp;term=2015\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-bill-would-require-250k-in-liability-insurance-for-gun-owners\" title=\"NY Bill Would Require $250K in Liability Insurance for Gun Owners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> bill <\/a>that would require all gun owners to purchase at least $250,000 in liability insurance, because, you know, we\u2019re all ticking time bombs.<\/p>\n<p>Crazy!<\/p>\n<p>But not for Ortiz who wants to hold \u201creckless gun owners accountable\u201d because apparently our thousands of existing laws aren\u2019t enough to punish those who mistreat, hurt or kill others with firearms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnough is enough,\u201d said Ortiz. \u201cHow can we protect our children from gun atrocities without a common sense approach to provide victim compensation?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need a better way to hold reckless gun owners accountable,&#8221; he continued. \u00a0&#8220;Laws cannot bring back loved ones, but requiring owners of firearms to have liability insurance brings us one step closer to acknowledging the risks and dangers of gun ownership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ortiz first introduced this bill in 2013, but it has historically failed to gain traction in the legislature.<\/p>\n<p>New York State Rifle and Pistol Association President Tom King called the bill \u201cridiculous,\u201d in an interview with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/gun-owners-neeed-250k-liability-insurance-article-1.2401025\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-bill-would-require-250k-in-liability-insurance-for-gun-owners\" title=\"NY Bill Would Require $250K in Liability Insurance for Gun Owners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> New York Daily News.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsurance companies don\u2019t insure against criminal acts,\u201d added King, a former insurance broker. \u201cThese guys are talking about things they don\u2019t know anything about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yup. That last line bears repeating and is almost always applicable when it comes to gun-grabbers: \u201cThese guys are talking about things they don\u2019t know anything about.\u201d Amen.
