Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2016 presidential election, had some strong word\u2019s for the nation\u2019s gun lobby this week.<\/p>\n
While responding to a question during a town hall style meeting Wednesday, Clinton compared the National Rifle Association to \u201cthe Iranians or the communists\u201d with respect to the organization\u2019s willingness to compromise. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe NRA tries to keep gun owners \u2013 the ones who are members \u2013 really upset all the time so they can keep collecting their money, because they tell them they\u2019re the only thing that\u2019s going to stop the black helicopters from landing in the front yard and people\u2019s guns being seized,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s the argument they make. And it works with some people and it has turned a lot of people into absolutists themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea that you need more guns to stop people who are committing mass shootings is not only illogical but offensive,\u201d Clinton added.<\/p>\n
Clinton was asked about how she would keep her composure and her resolve if her gun control agenda is defeated by the NRA. <\/p>\n
\u201cI know why the president feels discouraged, because it is discouraging to see the cynicism, the greed, behind this lobbying,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why we can\u2019t let them get away with it. We can\u2019t just say, \u2018OK, nothing we can do about it,\u2019 and walk away. We\u2019ve got to fight back.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NRA didn\u2019t comment on Clinton\u2019s response. But former Maryland Gov. Martin O\u2019Malley, another Democratic candidate for president, did chime in, releasing a statement suggesting that he is more of an adversary to the Second Amendment and the NRA than Mrs. Clinton. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s no secret that the NRA named Governor O\u2019Malley the ‘top menace’ to their cause because he has proven he will not back down to them, and that\u2019s what he will continue to do as president,\u201d the O\u2019Malley campaign said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
