{"id":45532,"date":"2015-10-07T01:48:58","date_gmt":"2015-10-07T05:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=45532"},"modified":"2015-10-07T01:48:58","modified_gmt":"2023-08-19T02:23:06","slug":"father-of-oregon-shooting-victim-explains-why-he-wont-visit-with-obama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/father-of-oregon-shooting-victim-explains-why-he-wont-visit-with-obama\/","title":{"rendered":"Father of Oregon Shooting Victim Explains Why He Won\u2019t Visit With Obama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before we get to the story, question: Would you visit with Obama if he wanted to visit with you?  <\/p>\n<p>If I\u2019m answer honestly, I\u2019d say that I would visit with the president\u2026 so I could look him dead in the eye and tell him that this country has gone to hell under his watch.  <\/p>\n<p>Actually, I don\u2019t think I\u2019d have the chutzpa to do that.  But I probably would meet him just so I could say I met a living president.  Then again, maybe I wouldn\u2019t meet him.  I guess I don\u2019t know how I would respond to the invite, which would certainly depend upon the circumstances.  <\/p>\n<p>To the matter at hand, the father of a shooting survivor at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, spoke in an interview on <a href=\"https:\/\/insider.foxnews.com\/2015\/10\/06\/father-oregon-shooting-survivor-obamas-visit-all-about-pushing-gun-control\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"father-of-oregon-shooting-victim-explains-why-he-wont-visit-with-obama\" title=\"Father of Oregon Shooting Victim Explains Why He Won\u2019t Visit With Obama\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox\u2019s \u201cThe Kelly File\u201d <\/a>and explained why he is not going to meet with the president this Friday as he makes his visit with the victims and their families.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On principle, I find that I am in disagreement with his policies on gun control, and therefore, we will not be attending the visit,\u201d said Stacy Boylan, the father of Ana Boylan, who was shot in the back and is now recovering from her wounds. <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Boylan brought up the issue of gun control and how it creates target rich environments for evildoers. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My daughter said to me, &#8216;What if somebody would have had a gun?&#8217; Gun-free and gun control takes that option off the table,&#8221; Boylan stated. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s the right course.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly Boylan is right with his assessment, which makes me wish that he would go talk to Obama and tell him directly how he feels.  You\u2019ll recall how cavalierly Obama dismissed, in his speech following the shooting, our belief that embracing and not curtailing the one\u2019s individual right to keep and bear arms is the best way to keep one safe from mass killers.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what\u2019s become routine, of course, is the response of those who oppose any kind of common-sense gun legislation,\u201d said Obama. \u201cRight now, I can imagine the press releases being cranked out: We need more guns, they\u2019ll argue. Fewer gun safety laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes anybody really believe that?\u201d questioned the president imperiously.  \u201cThere are scores of responsible gun owners in this country \u2013they know that\u2019s not true. We know because of the polling that says the majority of Americans understand we should be changing these laws \u2014 including the majority of responsible, law-abiding gun owners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, for what it\u2019s worth Mr. Boylan appears to be a responsible and law-abiding gun owner and he believes that gun-free zones are counterintuitive to public safety and downright dangerous.
