{"id":42199,"date":"2015-09-03T09:03:50","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T13:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=42199"},"modified":"2015-09-03T09:03:50","modified_gmt":"2023-08-19T00:06:46","slug":"smith-wesson-in-final-review-for-army-handgun-contract-ruger-opts-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/smith-wesson-in-final-review-for-army-handgun-contract-ruger-opts-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Smith &amp; Wesson In \u2018Final Review\u2019 For Army Handgun Contract, Ruger Opts Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\">The Beretta M9 has been the official Army handgun for more than 25 years, but the Smith &amp; Wesson Military &amp; Police pistol may soon be in the holster of soldiers around the globe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Army wants to make sure their new pistol will last for the long haul, and the review process is exhaustive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Their<a href=\"\/blog\/top-5-contenders-armys-new-sidearm\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"smith-wesson-in-final-review-for-army-handgun-contract-ruger-opts-out\" title=\"Smith &amp; Wesson In \u2018Final Review\u2019 For Army Handgun Contract, Ruger Opts Out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> new Modular Handgun System<\/a> must have modifiable grips, varied magazine options, ambidextrous controls, picatinny rails, and the ability to consistently reach out and touch a target at or beyond 50 yards. Smith &amp; Wesson is in the final stages of review, but Sturm, Ruger &amp; Company has opted out in the face of such stiff competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cWe believe we pretty much know that it\u2019s in its final, final review stage, so that\u2019s a good thing,\u201d said James Debney, Smith &amp; Wesson\u2019s president and chief executive officer. \u2018With waiting the [request for proposal], our expectation is that that will be released very soon. It\u2019s certainly in its final stages of review.
