But instead of selling the S&amp;W\u2019s or repurposing them, the city plans to destroy them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Caldwell and the Honolulu Police Department agreed that they would not allow the guns to be sold to the general public and end up on the streets of Honolulu,\u201d said the HPD. \u201cThe same goes for selling individual gun parts that could have been used to assemble a gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many of the HPD officers were willing to purchase their old handguns, but evidently the city didn\u2019t even trust them enough to do that.<\/p>\n<p>The city could have generated around $575,000 dollars had they sold the guns to the public, and nearly $345,000 had they sold them to the officers.
