{"id":41258,"date":"2015-08-14T08:53:08","date_gmt":"2015-08-14T12:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=41258"},"modified":"2015-08-14T08:53:08","modified_gmt":"2023-08-18T02:31:05","slug":"win-for-gun-owners-in-california-governor-signs-confiscation-reform-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/win-for-gun-owners-in-california-governor-signs-confiscation-reform-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Win for Gun Owners in California, Governor Signs Confiscation Reform Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In California, a family member has the power to petition a judge to impose <a href=\"\/blog\/california-governor-approves-confiscatory-gun-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"win-for-gun-owners-in-california-governor-signs-confiscation-reform-bill\" title=\"Win for Gun Owners in California, Governor Signs Confiscation Reform Bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a &#8220;gun violence restraining order&#8221; <\/a>on a relative, which, if granted, triggers law enforcement to confiscate the firearms of the supposedly dangerous individual.<\/p>\n<p>While the intent of the law is ostensibly good, it certainly opens up the door for abuse. \u00a0A disgruntled spouse can easily use the law to make life extremely miserable for his\/her gun-owning husband\/wife.<\/p>\n<p>Until Gov. Jerry Brown signed a reform bill this week that changes\u00a0the law,\u00a0a person caught in the crosshairs of a &#8220;gun violence restraining order&#8221; was forced to either sell off their firearm collection or turn them over to law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201520160AB950\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"win-for-gun-owners-in-california-governor-signs-confiscation-reform-bill\" title=\"Win for Gun Owners in California, Governor Signs Confiscation Reform Bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly Bill 950<\/a>, championed by\u00a0Assemblywoman Melissa A.
