{"id":40226,"date":"2015-07-23T22:28:30","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T02:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=40226"},"modified":"2015-07-23T22:28:30","modified_gmt":"2023-08-18T21:31:00","slug":"obama-distressed-about-failure-to-enact-gun-control-but-not-giving-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/obama-distressed-about-failure-to-enact-gun-control-but-not-giving-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama \u2018Distressed\u2019 About Failure to Enact Gun Control, But Not Giving Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Obama once again<a href=\"\/blog\/obama-laments-gun-lobbys-grip-on-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"obama-distressed-about-failure-to-enact-gun-control-but-not-giving-up\" title=\"Obama \u2018Distressed\u2019 About Failure to Enact Gun Control, But Not Giving Up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> lamented the fact<\/a> that, along with Congress, his administration has failed to place tougher restrictions on one\u2019s Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-33646704\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"obama-distressed-about-failure-to-enact-gun-control-but-not-giving-up\" title=\"Obama \u2018Distressed\u2019 About Failure to Enact Gun Control, But Not Giving Up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with the BBC<\/a>, POTUS discussed his biggest frustration while occupying the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou mentioned the issue of guns, that is an area where if you ask me where has been the one area where I feel that I&#8217;ve been most frustrated and most stymied it is the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense, gun-safety laws,\u201d said Obama. \u201cEven in the face of repeated mass killings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president then went on to draw a parallel between terrorism and gun-related violence in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you know, if you look at the number of Americans killed since 9\/11 by terrorism, it&#8217;s less than 100,\u201d explained Obama. \u201cIf you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it&#8217;s in the tens of thousands. And for us not to be able to resolve that issue has been something that is distressing. But it is not something that I intend to stop working on in the remaining 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As I\u2019ve repeatedly argued, guns aren\u2019t the issue &#8212; criminals are. Instead of putting the focus on firearms, Obama ought to put all his resources into targeting drug dealers, gang members, robbers, rapists, those mental defectives with homicidal ideations.
