However, the most recent audit showed they had \u201cfailed over 18 months to fully implement seven of eight recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ had a goal of a queue containing no more than 600 persons who are potentially prohibited from owning firearms, but in the first quarter of 2015 alone they had nearly 3,600 in their queue.<\/p>\n<p>Talk about backlogged.<\/p>\n<p>According to California Attorney General and U.S. Senatorial candidate Kamala Harris (D), the fault lies primarily with a lack of staffing, but he\u2019s also pointing a finger at \u201cthe continued strong sales of firearms in California.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, many Californians are scooping up as many firearms as monetarily possible in light of the never-ending supply of increasingly strict gun legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Some might even say the problem was self-induced.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-San Diego), the DOJ has no one to blame but themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Legislature gave Harris\u2019 office $24 million nearly two years ago to clear the backlogs and received assurances it could be done within a year,\u201d said Huff.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent audit showed there could be as many as \u201c257,000 people from before 2006\u201d who \u201cown guns in violation of state law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(<em>This article was a submission from freelance writer Brent Rogers<\/em>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent audit of California\u2019s Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed the agency has seriously fallen behind on keeping track of those persons who own guns, but shouldn\u2019t. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":34,"featured_media":39815,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_specdata_upc":"","_specdata_placement":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[244,7,216,240],"tags":[132,122],"featured":[],"hunt365":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-39814","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-2nd-amendment-r2kba","8":"category-gunsamerica-authors","9":"category-s-h-blannelberry","10":"category-this-week","11":"tag-buzz","12":"tag-r2kba"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>California DOJ Falls Behind On Tracking Persons Who Shouldn\u2019t Own Guns<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Shocking!
