A Durham, North Carolina, police officer proved his shooting skills when he aced a \u201chostage shot,\u201d saving a woman\u2019s life in the process.<\/p>\n
Dennis Lawrence, 26, was in the process of holding a McDonald\u2019s employee hostage when Sgt. Glen Price entered the premises. Price saw that Lawrence had his arm wrapped around the woman\u2019s neck, and believing the victim was in imminent danger, he fired a single shot.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery indication was that he was going to harm and was capable of killing the victim,\u201d said Police Chief Jose. L Lopez.<\/p>\n
The round whizzed past the woman\u2019s head and struck Lawrence in the face. The employee escaped uninjured, but Lawrence was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening wounds.<\/p>\n
Lawrence was charged with two counts of assault on a female and two counts of communicating threats. <\/p>\n
The shooting is being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Durham Police Department\u2019s Professional Standards Division and Criminal Investigations Division, which is pretty much standard procedure across all agencies for any officer-involved shooting.<\/p>\n
