Hank Johnson (D-GA), it\u2019s \u201ccommon sense\u201d to prohibit law-abiding citizens from possessing firearms in or around airports.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson\u2019s proposed bill, known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/api.viglink.com\/api\/click?format=go&amp;jsonp=vglnk_143472318911917&amp;key=bd72aac6c858678871a73ee0bbf9c3c3&amp;libId=ib3p50fh010114k3000DA7rx76u4j&amp;loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.guns.com%2F2015%2F06%2F18%2Fdem-introduces-bill-to-ban-guns-from-airports-nationwide-video%2F&amp;v=1&amp;out=http%3A%2F%2Fhankjohnson.house.gov%2Fsites%2Fhankjohnson.house.gov%2Ffiles%2Fdocuments%2FAirport_Security_Act_2015_0.pdf&amp;ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.guns.com%2Fpage%2F2%2F&amp;title=Dem%20introduces%20bill%20to%20ban%20guns%20from%20airports%20nationwide%20(VIDEO)&amp;txt=Airport%20Security%20Act%20of%202015\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"democrat-wants-to-turn-airports-into-gun-free-zones-with-common-sense-bill\" title=\"Democrat Wants to Turn Airports Into Gun-Free Zones With \u2018Common Sense\u2019 Bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airport Security Act of 2015<\/a>, or H.R. 2767, rides on the coattails of an incident that recently took place in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, <a href=\"https:\/\/politics.blog.ajc.com\/2015\/06\/15\/after-atl-incident-hank-johnson-wants-to-ban-loaded-guns-outside-airport-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"democrat-wants-to-turn-airports-into-gun-free-zones-with-common-sense-bill\" title=\"Democrat Wants to Turn Airports Into Gun-Free Zones With \u2018Common Sense\u2019 Bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">where Jim Cooley &#8212; legally &#8212; openly carried his AR-15<\/a> through the building.<\/p>\n<p>Police detained Cooley, but let him go after realizing the gun advocate wasn\u2019t actually breaking any laws.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson\u2019s argument for the bill is that airports equate to transportation, and transportation equates to our front doors. So in order to protect our communities we must turn airports into gun-free zones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAirports are the gateway to commerce throughout the world and the front door to the communities they connect for millions of passengers who visit the United States each year,\u201d said Rep. Johnson. \u201cIt defies logic that we would allow anyone other than law enforcement officials to carry a loaded gun within an airport.
