In fact, I have already pointed out why the SAFE Act, which was passed in 2013 in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, <a href=\"\/blog\/5-reasons-safe-acts-gun-ban-list-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-lawmakers-want-to-double-down-on-gun-control-despite-safe-act-failures\" title=\"NY Lawmakers Want to Double Down on Gun Control, Despite SAFE Act Failures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was a failure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, despite the SAFE Acts many problems, lawmakers in the Empire State want to double down on gun control and further restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/news\/article\/Gun-control-advocates-push-on-6242106.php\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-lawmakers-want-to-double-down-on-gun-control-despite-safe-act-failures\" title=\"NY Lawmakers Want to Double Down on Gun Control, Despite SAFE Act Failures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> TimesUnion reported<\/a> that state lawmakers are pushing a new wave of gun control legislation, including bills to mandate the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microstamping<\/li>\n<li>Gun Storage<\/li>\n<li>Ban on .50 Caliber Rifles<\/li>\n<li>Authorize State Police to Inspect Gun Stores<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Passing the SAFE Act was an achievement. Most politicians in New York state feel we have conquered gun violence,&#8221; Long Island Democratic Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel said at a recent rally sponsored by New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.<\/p>\n<p>Schimel support for the latest wave of gun control is backed by other Democratic Assembly members Brian Kavanagh, Amy Paulin and Patrica Fahy.<\/p>\n<p>Thus far, at least two of the bills were introduced in the Senate, SB 2050, the ban on .50 caliber rifles and SB 2491, the safe storage requirement. However, the Senate committee, which is controlled by the GOP, voted down the measures 9-7.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe failure of this committee to move this common-sense, rational gun-safety bill is deplorable,\u201d said Sen. Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) the sponsor of the safe storage bill in a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/press-release\/senate-codes-committee-votes-down-gun-safety-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ny-lawmakers-want-to-double-down-on-gun-control-despite-safe-act-failures\" title=\"NY Lawmakers Want to Double Down on Gun Control, Despite SAFE Act Failures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> statement late last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should all be able to agree that allowing young children to have unsupervised access to loaded weapons is not something a responsible gun owner would ever do,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;These tragic deaths leave a gaping hole in the hearts of parents, family, friends and communities, and every single one of them is preventable. Today we failed to take a responsible step to protect New York\u2019s children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the other measures, it\u2019s not clear what the future holds.
