Police Looked Into Investigating Lawmakers for Holding AR-15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News Insider <\/a>reported that two federal lawmakers were under the microscope of D.C. attorney general Karl A. Racine after posing in a Twitter photo with an AR-15.<\/p>\n<p>The photo of Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) caught the eye of the attorney general\u2019s office because of the District\u2019s draconian gun laws, which include a ban on AR-15s and other commonly owned and widely popular semiautomatic rifles. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The matter has been referred to the Metropolitan Police Department for further investigation,\u201d a spokesman for the attorney general told <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/other\/239509-dc-attorney-general-looking-into-republican-photo-with-assault-rifle\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"d-c-looked-into-investigating-lawmakers-for-holding-ar-15\" title=\"D.C. Police Looked Into Investigating Lawmakers for Holding AR-15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is illegal to possess an AR-15 in the District,\u201d the spokesman added.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Buck said he is not breaking the law because the firearm is \u201cinoperable\u201d and he had approval from U.S. Capitol Police to display the rifle in a locked case. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a very patriotic AR-15 hanging in my office. It hangs directly above my Second Amendment flag,\u201d Buck told The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile safety protocols call for all guns to be treated as if they are loaded, this one isn&#8217;t. Further, a close inspection of the only public photo of the rifle will show that the bolt carrier assembly is not in the rifle; it is in fact in Colorado,\u201d he continued.  \u201cIt is a beautiful, patriotic paper weight.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Gowdy addressed the matter on &#8220;Fox and Friends\u201d recently, also echoing the comments that the Republican lawmakers did not run afoul of the law. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I look at that photo, the real crime is the suit that I have on more so than the holding of an inoperable gun after you receive permission from law enforcement,&#8221; Gowdy said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t dictate what&#8217;s gonna become news and what&#8217;s not,\u201d he added.  <\/p>\n<p>What the heck is wrong with this country that two citizens are now being investigated for holding America&#8217;s best selling rifle in our nation&#8217;s capital?  <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TGowdySC\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"d-c-looked-into-investigating-lawmakers-for-holding-ar-15\" title=\"D.C.
