The nation\u2019s capital is one of the worst places in the country to live if one wants to exercise one\u2019s Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. Two lawmakers are hoping to change this reality, however.<\/p>\n

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH-04) introduced on Thursday the \u201cSecond Amendment Enforcement Act of 2015,\u201d a bill that would expand gun rights for D.C. residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to achieve the American Dream, people need to be able to live in safe communities and be able to protect themselves, their families and their properties from danger. The lawful exercise of the Second Amendment is part of what makes this possible,\u201d said Rubio in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor years, the District of Columbia has infringed on its residents\u2019 Second Amendment rights and rendered them vulnerable to criminals who could care less what the gun laws are,\u201d Rubio continued. \u201cThis legislation will finally allow D.C.\u2019s law-abiding residents and visitors access to firearms for sporting or lawful defense of themselves and their homes, businesses and families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rep. Jordan echoed those thoughts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWashington, D.C. has some of the harshest laws against gun owners in the nation,\u201d Jordan said. \u201cBy rolling back unnecessary restrictions and protecting the rights of homeowners to protect themselves, this bill will make Washington, D.C. a safer place for law-abiding citizens, and will restore the original intent of the Second Amendment to our nation\u2019s capital.\u201d<\/p>\n
