President Obama does not shoot straight when it comes to talking about guns. He lies. Probably not news to you, and it sure isn\u2019t news to me, but for many out there it may be somewhat of a revelation.<\/p>\n

The latest example of his attempt to bend the truth was highlighted by The Washington Post, which fact-checked<\/a> an excerpt from a speech Obama gave at Benedict College earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The result of WP\u2019s review was Obama received \u201cthree pinocchios,\u201d meaning there were \u201csignificant factual error[s] and\/or obvious contradictions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the excerpt from the speech:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we also have to recognize is, is that our homicide rates are so much higher than other industrialized countries. I mean by like a mile. And most of that is attributable to the easy, ready availability of firearms, particularly handguns.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as long as you can go into some neighborhoods and it is easier for you to buy a firearm than it is for you to buy a book, there are neighborhoods where it\u2019s easier for you to buy a handgun and clips than it is for you to buy a fresh vegetable \u2014 as long as that\u2019s the case, we\u2019re going to continue to see unnecessary violence.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople just say well, we should have firearms in kindergarten and we should have machine guns in bars. You think I\u2019m exaggerating \u2014 I mean, you look at some of these laws that come up.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Essentially, every point Obama made was either greatly exaggerated or downright factually incorrect. It\u2019s funny, because he actually said \u201cYou think I\u2019m exaggerating,\u201d and the correct response would have been, \u201cHell yes, you are! You\u2019re not only exaggerating, you\u2019re telling us bald-face lies!\u201d<\/p>\n

After closely examining Obama\u2019s comments, the WP came to the following conclusion:<\/p>\n

The president was playing fast and loose with his language here\u2014to a group of college students no less. There\u2019s little excuse for the claim that in some neighborhoods, it is easier to buy a gun than vegetable (see update above) \u2014 or to say he\u2019s \u201cnot exaggerating\u201d when he claims that some people have proposed laws that would allow machine guns in bars.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

As for the U.S. ranking on homicides among industrialized nations, the president certainly would have had a stronger case if he said the United States was above average, or that it was in the top ranks. But instead he claimed the United States had rates that were higher \u201cby like a mile.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The gun debate is serious enough that it should not be poisoned by exaggerated claims and faux statistics. The president earns Three Pinocchios.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Again, this isn\u2019t the first time Obama has spouted lies with respect to the gun debate. During a 2013 Democratic campaign event in San Francisco Obama said<\/a> that Newtown school shooter Adam Lanza used a \u201cfully automatic weapon\u201d to murder the children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Not true. Not by a long shot. Lanza allegedly used a AR-15 to perpetrate the atrocity.<\/p>\n

Obama is also guilty of propagating the meme that 40 percent of gun sales are processed without a background check, another lie that the Washington Post has exposed.<\/a><\/p>\n

Perhaps the president\u2019s biggest lie on firearms, however, is his continued insistence that he supports the Second Amendment. On multiple occasions he has tried to convince the American people that he respects the Second Amendment, which is frankly absurd given his anti-gun agenda.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re a nation that believes in the Second Amendment, and I believe in the Second Amendment,\u201d the president said while on the campaign trail in 2012.<\/p>\n

Former White House press secretary Jay Carney also tried to make it sound as if the president was a pro-gun advocate. Of course, this was during Obama\u2019s push to ban many commonly owned and widely popular black rifles in the wake of Sandy Hook.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, he\u2019s had conversations with various lawmakers on this issue,\u201d Carney said<\/a>, \u201cincluding those who have a strong record of support for Second Amendment rights, and I would note that the president has a strong record of support for Second Amendment rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s insane! It\u2019s the definition of Orwellian doublespeak. By \u201csupport,\u201d Carney really means \u201cattempting to infringe upon\u201d the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day it\u2019s nice to see other media outlets, aside from gun blogs, point out Obama\u2019s bullshit. We can only hope that some of the shills and the sheeple are paying attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
