Emily Miller is a vocal and respected advocate for the Second Amendment. She is also an investigative reporter for Fox 5 News in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

In 2010, on New Year\u2019s Day, Miller claims she was the victim of a home invasion. While dog-sitting for a friend, the story goes, Emily came back to the residence to find a \u201cdrug addict\u201d robbing the place.<\/p>\n

According to Miller, the robber fled. But she wanted to make sure he was gone so she went outside to confirm he had left the scene. Here is Miller\u2019s account of what happened:<\/p>\n

After the man left, I was still suspicious so I went inside, grabbed my Blackberry and clicked on the icon for the camera. I walked down the street, and as I turned the corner, I saw about 15 scruffy young men standing around two pickup trucks. We were at the end of a woody, dead-end road.<\/em><\/p>\n

I nervously held up my Blackberry to take a quick photo of them and the license plates. Suddenly, the blood-shot-eyed guy darted out, blocking the shot. \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d he asked. I looked around at all the men staring at me and was suddenly scared.<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a story that she\u2019s told probably 1,000 times while touring the country to promote her book, \u201cEmily Gets Her Gun: \u2026But Obama Wants to Take Yours<\/a>.\u201d In fact, in an interview with me,<\/a> she relayed similar details.<\/p>\n

Now, pointing to the official police report, The Washington Post<\/a> is calling into question the veracity of Miller\u2019s story. Here an excerpt from the documents:<\/p>\n

[Miller] stated that she left out to walk the dog at 1515hrs and when she returned at 1525hrs she observed [the suspect] exiting from behind the fence which leads to the side of the house. [Miller] asked [suspect] \u2018What are you doing here\u2019 and [suspect] stated \u2018I am delivering firewood.<\/em><\/p>\n

[Miller] stated that she went into the house and felt that something was not right, so she exited the house to take a photo of [suspect’s] vehicle. [Suspect] approached [Miller] and gave her a business card that stated [a tree service] and [suspect] left the scene. [Miller] stated that [suspect] was operating a silver pick up truck with landscaping on the side of it.<\/em><\/p>\n

[Miller] stated that she was contacted by her credit card company at 1945hrs about some fraudulent charges on her credit card. [Miller] stated that she checked her purse and noticed that her Visa credit card and $50.00 in US Currency was missing. [Miller] stated that while she was out walking the dog she had left her purse on the counter in the kitchen of the offense location.<\/em><\/p>\n

Was there an actual robbery? Was the man a suspected \u201cdrug addict\u201d or simply a landscaper? Were there really 15 men \u201cscruffy young men standing around two pickup trucks\u201d?<\/p>\n

The Washington Post believes that Miller embellished her story, adding details like the \u201cdrug addict\u201d and the \u201c15 young scruffy men\u201d to make it appear more harrowing than it actually was. The WP went on to say that no charges were ever filed against the suspect and that police attempted to contact Miller three times on \u201cFeb. 3, 2010, Feb. 4 and Feb. 9\u201d to follow up on the incident but no calls were returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe undersigned made several attempts to contact the complainant [Miller] which ended in negative results. The undersigned request that this report be suspended until additional means of contacting the complainant is provided,\u201d reads the report.<\/p>\n

Why didn\u2019t Miller attempt to press charges or recovery the money that was taken?<\/p>\n

I reached out to Miller and am awaiting a response. For what it is worth, having corresponded with her on multiple occasions, I\u2019m inclined to believe her account of the incident as police reports are not always all-encompassing. \u00a0Plus, she doesn\u2019t seem like one to tell tall tales.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Coalition to Gun Violence is launching a campaign <\/a>to have Miller fired from Fox 5. In an email to GunsAmerica, Ladd Everitt from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence said \u201cHer story has changed constantly, and it does not match up with the facts from the police report on the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMiller’s goal is not to provide objective, accurate reporting. She’s an advocate, and she’s using her position to promote a radical view of the Second Amendment that is totally out of step with WTTG’s viewers,\u201d Everitt continued. \u201cIf WTTG still cares anything about actual journalism, they will send her packing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
