Everytown for Gun Safety unveiled “Not One More” bracelets <\/a>Tuesday to help garner support for strengthening the nation’s laws with respect to gun ownership.<\/p>\n

The message on the bracelets was culled from an impassioned speech given by Richard Martinez, whose 20-year-old son, Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, was killed in the tragedy near the campus of UC Santa Barbara back in May.<\/p>\n

In his address, Martinez blamed lawmakers and the nation’s gun lobby for the death of his son.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA…” exclaimed Martinez. “When will enough people say, \u2018Stop this madness.\u2019 We do not have to live like this. Too many people have died. We should say to ourselves, \u2018not one more.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The “not one more” refrain was soon adopted by Everytown for Gun Safety, former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun control organization.<\/p>\n

“The work of fixing America’s broken gun laws is not easy, but it is progressing,” said Bloomberg at the bracelet event in New York City. “Americans from all parts of the country and all political affiliations are demanding that their lawmakers take action, and more and more state legislators are listening. I want to thank Donna Karan, Lise Evans and everyone at Urban Zen for supporting this work and standing with us to say: ‘Not one more.'”<\/p>\n

Karan and Evans are two designers who collaborated on making the bracelets, which sell for $30.00.<\/p>\n

“Every problem has a solution and I believe the solution to our nation\u2019s gun problem is to join all of our voices and talents together \u2013 from political leaders to gun violence survivors and the designers, musicians, actors, models, producers, directors and hoteliers who came together to launch the bracelet \u2013 and for each of us to use our influence to say loud and clear: NOT ONE MORE,” said Karan.<\/p>\n

At face value gun owners agree that “Not One More” person should die from gun violence. Yet, short of a major development in crime fighting and policing, on par with the pre-cogs in the film “Minority Report,” bad and crazy people aren’t going away anytime soon. Sadly, this means that more people will die from gun-related violence.<\/p>\n

Given this troubling reality, I will not be purchasing a “Not One More” bracelet because I reject the philosophy behind the band that further infringing on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens will stop evil people from obtaining firearms.<\/p>\n

Instead, I’d much rather purchase a bracelet that reads “Stand and Fight” as I believe strongly in one’s right to self-defense and I want bad and crazy people to recognize that I am not an easy mark. Kinda like that dude with the crooked nose, cauliflower ears and eyebrow scars, a “Stand and Fight” bracelet would signify that (a) “I may be armed” and be “You can try me, but I’m not going down without a fight.”<\/p>\n

From my vantage point, if there’s a message we ought to be sending it’s exactly that. “You want to victimize me or my family? Well, there’s going to be one hell of a price to pay.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
