Meopta is a quiet company<\/a><\/a>. Their booth presence at SHOT is subtle. It is off the main floor, and decorated in what can only be described as a clean, classy, and understated. This put the focus on what you really want to see from the Czechoslovakian glass maker–the clarity of their glass. You could walk past the booth without ever getting the message. But if you stop long enough to pick up a scope, you’ll see instantly why Meopta gets so much respect from within the industry. And you will see it clearly.<\/p>\n

New for 2015 are additions to the MeoStar and MeoPro scope lines. The new MeoStar scopes have red-dot reticles that can have an excellent feature built into their controls. Between each positive stop is an off setting. So if you like a 7 on the brightness dial, simply turn it to 6.5, or 7.5 and the light will be off. To turn it on, simply turn the dial one click and the light appears at the right setting. No more cranking way up to find the right spot.<\/p>\n

An interesting side note. Meopta makes their own line of scopes, binoculars, and spotting scopes. They’re slowly expanding their line to include more in the tactical world, where fashion–more than anything else–determines reputation. But there’s more to Meopta. They make glass and components for some of the other big names in the industry. I’d stopped by the booth on Friday, as the SHOT Show was winding down, and there were some interesting visitors in the Meopta booth. I’m not going to name any names, but I will say that one of the major players in the American optics scene was there, checking them out. And I could tell by the look on his face that he was impressed with what he saw.<\/p>\n

Check out Meopta if you haven’t already. The quality is on par with the most fashionable names in European optics. But the prices aren’t. You will pay for quality, not for the name.<\/p>\n
