An Atlanta man filed a lawsuit Monday against Douglas County election officials after a polling attendant in October told him to remove his National Rifle Association hat before being allowed to cast a vote.<\/p>\n

While Bundy Cobb, the hat owner and NRA instructor, ended up removing his hat so that he could vote, he claims in the lawsuit that his civil rights were violated, according to MyFoxAtlanta<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bundy says he was told he could not cast his vote at a Douglasville polling location unless he removed his hat, which identified him as an NRA instructor. Cobb told FOX 5 in October that he removed the hat so he could vote.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Southeastern Legal Foundation filed the lawsuit Monday in federal court in Atlanta on behalf of Cobb.<\/em><\/p>\n

The lawsuit says elections officials told Cobb to remove his NRA instructor hat inside the polling place. Cobb says elections officials told him the NRA is seen as being associated with the Republican party so the hat could be considered an illegal campaign material.<\/em><\/p>\n

Douglas County attorney Ken Bernard did not immediately return an email seeking comment Tuesday.<\/em><\/p>\n

The lawsuit challenges what it calls a per se ban on clothing referencing the NRA at county polling places.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bundy told FOX 5 the issue wasn’t about politics, but rather freedom of speech and expression.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
