{"id":28327,"date":"2014-12-04T12:24:26","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T17:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=28327"},"modified":"2014-12-04T12:24:26","modified_gmt":"2023-08-18T06:35:06","slug":"kalashnikov-concern-rebrands-iconic-rifle-weapon-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/kalashnikov-concern-rebrands-iconic-rifle-weapon-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalashnikov Concern Rebrands Iconic Rifle: &#8216;Weapon of Peace&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The AK-47 is now a &#8220;weapon of peace,&#8221; according to a new rebranding campaign launched Tuesday by the Kalashnikov Concern.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the iconic rifle, the Russian weapons manufacturer is attempting to change the perception of all the military, police, hunting and sporting firearms it produces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kalashnikov is a Russian symbol that is known across the world,\u201d said Alexei Krivoruchko, Kalashnikov\u2019s chief executive <a href=\"https:\/\/rostec.ru\/en\/news\/4515158\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"kalashnikov-concern-rebrands-iconic-rifle-weapon-peace\" title=\"Kalashnikov Concern Rebrands Iconic Rifle: 'Weapon of Peace'\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the press event<\/a>. \u201cThe rebranding is a symbol of changes in the way our business works and our product lines that have been long in the making. The new brand will reflect our main principles: reliability, responsibility and technological efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rebranding comes as the Kalashnikov Concern, abbreviated as C.K., officially becomes the umbrella company for three formerly disparate manufacturers: Kalashnikov, Izhmash and Baikal.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for U.S. consumers the Obama administration embargoed the import of C.K. products<a href=\"\/blog\/kalashnikov-concern-responds-sanctions\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"kalashnikov-concern-rebrands-iconic-rifle-weapon-peace\" title=\"Kalashnikov Concern Rebrands Iconic Rifle: 'Weapon of Peace'\"> back in July <\/a>due to Russia&#8217;s involvement in Ukraine. Prior to the sanctions, C.K. had penned a deal to supply between 80,000 to 200,000 firearms a year, for the next five years, to a U.S. importer. In it, the AK-47 was highlighted as a force for good in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe gun was made for the defence of a country that was living through the cold war and had to be prepared for a major intervention,\u201d says the video voiceover. \u201cThe simple and reliable AK was also in demand well beyond the borders of the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt precipitated not just a technological but a social revolution. Freedom movements in Africa, Asia and Latin America could at last fight back against professional colonial armies. The AK-47 gave them the chance to demand rights and achieve justice.
