{"id":28295,"date":"2014-12-02T14:08:28","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T19:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=28295"},"modified":"2026-05-07T02:58:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T07:58:17","slug":"police-officers-wear-body-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/police-officers-wear-body-cameras\/","title":{"rendered":"Should All Police Officers Wear Body Cameras?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Putting body cameras on all law enforcement officers might help prevent the next Ferguson, Missouri, said the Obama administration on Monday while requesting $263 million for a fund that would aim to improve the apparent schism between minority communities and municipal police departments.  <\/p>\n<p>Of that total, approximately $75 million would be appropriated for body cameras.  Should Congress approve the proposal, the federal dollars would be available to the states so long as they put up 50 percent of the funding.  <\/p>\n<p>With that kind of funding in place upwards of 50,000 cameras could make their way to departments around the country, <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/mass-bill-nearly-double-taxes-firearm-sales-ban-50-cals\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"police-officers-wear-body-cameras\" title=\"Should All Police Officers Wear Body Cameras?\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4623\">nearly doubling<\/a> the amount of video recording devices currently in use by police.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn five years, this will be ubiquitous,\u201d Jim Bueermann, the president of the Police Foundation, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/articles\/2014-12-02\/obamas-plan-would-almost-double-use-of-police-body-cams\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"police-officers-wear-body-cameras\" title=\"Should All Police Officers Wear Body Cameras?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg News<\/a>. \u201cIt will be more unusual to see officers not wearing a <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/body-cam-footage-released-of-fatal-texas-police-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"police-officers-wear-body-cameras\" title=\"Should All Police Officers Wear Body Cameras?\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4624\">body cam<\/a> than wearing one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given that things are headed in this direction, what are your thoughts?
