{"id":27152,"date":"2014-11-12T07:21:54","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T12:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=27152"},"modified":"2014-11-12T07:21:54","modified_gmt":"2023-08-18T04:44:23","slug":"missouri-cities-towns-can-longer-ban-open-carry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/missouri-cities-towns-can-longer-ban-open-carry\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri cities, towns can no longer ban open carry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><object><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Municipalities in Missouri are coming to terms with a recently approved state law that prohibits cities and towns from banning open carry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had no choice in the matter,\u201d Webster Groves Mayor Gerri Welch said with respect to repealing the city&#8217;s open carry ban, in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmov.com\/news\/local\/New-state-law-prevents-any-Missouri-city-from-banning-open-carry-282092131.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-cities-towns-can-longer-ban-open-carry\" title=\"Missouri cities, towns can no longer ban open carry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KMOV St. Louis<\/a>. \u201cWe must comply with state law, and all of us as municipalities are facing this.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The law was part of a larger package of pro-gun measures, known as <a href=\"\/blog\/missouri-legislature-overrides-governors-veto-approves-arming-teachers-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-cities-towns-can-longer-ban-open-carry\" title=\"Missouri cities, towns can no longer ban open carry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SB 656<\/a>, that gave school district&#8217;s the option to arm teachers and lowered the minimum age required to obtain a concealed carry permit from 21 to 19.  <\/p>\n<p>Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed the measures, but the GOP-dominated <a href=\"\/blog\/missouri-legislature-overrides-governors-veto-approves-arming-teachers-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"missouri-cities-towns-can-longer-ban-open-carry\" title=\"Missouri cities, towns can no longer ban open carry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legislature overrode<\/a> the Democratic governor&#8217;s veto back in September, thus clearing the path for SB 665 to take effect.  <\/p>\n<p>Following the override, open carry advocates took to the streets in St. Louis for a peaceful celebration.
