class="wp-block-heading">Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB Review: Magnum Suppression Without the Extra Length

The Nomad Ti OTB is Dead Air’s new over-the-barrel .30 caliber rifle suppressor. Ti stands for titanium, and the can is 3D-printed. It builds on the Nomad Ti XC, but part of its body slides back over the barrel, so it adds only 4.6 inches in front of the muzzle. That is the feature I am most excited about.

For a hunting rifle, those inches matter. A long suppressor hanging off the muzzle can change how a rifle handles, especially when you’re carrying it through brush or on a sling. The Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB takes a different approach by putting some of that suppressor length behind the muzzle instead of hanging all of it out front.

The question is whether that clever packaging still delivers the sound and recoil reduction you want from a magnum-rated suppressor. That’s what I wanted to find out.

Watch the Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB Take on a 300 PRC

Here’s the Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB video review, including the rifle setup and range testing. The video gives you a better sense of the suppressor’s proportions and the difference between shooting the 300 PRC with and without the can.

The video is worth watching for the sound comparison, but remember that recorded audio isn’t a substitute for calibrated sound testing. I haven’t put this suppressor on a sound meter yet, so my observations here are based on shooting it.

Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB Specs: 10.5 Ounces, 4.6 Inches Added and Magnum Rated

The Nomad Ti OTB specifications tell an interesting story. This is a 7.65-inch suppressor that adds just 4.6 inches beyond the muzzle, with a titanium body and a 4,400+ ft-lb energy rating. It is designed for bolt-action and semi-auto rifles, but it isn’t full-auto rated.

Spec

Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB

Caliber rating

.30 caliber, up to .300 RUM and 7mm Backcountry

Energy rating

4,400+ ft-lb

Length

7.65″ (adds 4.6″ to overall length)

Diameter

1.76″

Weight

10.5 oz (12.5 oz with the included brake)

Material

6AL4V Grade 5 titanium, 3D printed

Finish

Black or FDE high-temp Cerakote

Mount

Xeno Radial Brake, 5/8-24 (included)

Barrel restrictions

5.56: 12.5″ / .300 RUM and 7mm Backcountry: 16″

Max barrel diameter under the can

1″

Use

Bolt action and semi-auto, not full-auto rated

MSRP

$1,049

On paper, those numbers make the Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB especially interesting for hunters carrying magnum rifles. The size, weight and barrel clearance are important, but the way that weight sits on the rifle is what really stood out during my testing.

The Nomad Ti OTB’s Biggest Trick: Just 4.6 Inches Past the Muzzle

The over-the-barrel design moves part of the Nomad Ti OTB’s length behind the muzzle, helping reduce its forward overhang.

Of the OTB’s 7.65 inches, about 3 sit behind the muzzle, over the barrel. That shorter overhang makes the rifle easier to maneuver, easier to carry on a sling and easier to get through brush. It also moves weight back toward you. The extra material over the barrel adds volume and a larger blast chamber.

On my 300 PRC, the rifle doesn’t look much longer with the can on, and it doesn’t feel front-heavy. Balanced on my hand, the rifle still tipped rear-heavy, which surprised me. There was also plenty of clearance around my barrel. The OTB fits barrels up to 1 inch in diameter, so you could run a much heavier barrel under it.

That rear-heavy balance was one of the biggest surprises in this Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB review. A suppressor doesn’t have to be particularly heavy to make a rifle feel awkward when all that weight is hanging off the muzzle. Moving part of the suppressor back over the barrel changes how that weight is distributed.

For hunting, I care about that more than how a suppressor looks on a bench. A rifle that carries naturally and doesn’t constantly pull its muzzle downward is simply more pleasant to spend a day with.

10.5 Ounces or 12.5? The Real Weight of the Nomad Ti OTB

Dead Air lists the OTB at 10.5 ounces, and that is accurate for the can itself. I don’t like when suppressor makers leave out the parts you need to mount the can, so here is the full number. The OTB isn’t offered in a direct-thread version, which I wish it were. It mounts on the included Xeno Radial Brake, a stainless steel 5/8-24 brake that weighs about 2 ounces. Together, you are carrying about 12.5 ounces. That is still a very light setup for a magnum-rated can.

That distinction matters when you’re comparing lightweight titanium suppressors. The bare suppressor weight is useful, but the mounted weight is what you actually carry. In this case, the difference is about 2 ounces, and I would rather have the complete number up front.

Xeno Radial Brake Installation: Smart Details That Matter

The brake is well thought out. A 3/4-inch socket fits over it for installation, and Dead Air calls for no more than 25 ft-lb of torque. The can seals at the front of the brake, which keeps carbon and corrosion off the threads behind it. The brake also takes some of the initial blast, which should help the suppressor last longer.

The OTB threads on in the opposite direction from what you may be used to. Dead Air printed an arrow and the word “on” into the body so you know which way to turn it.

That marking is a small detail, but it’s a useful one. When you’re dealing with a mounting system that turns differently than expected, having the correct direction marked on the suppressor removes some guesswork.

The OTB works with Dead Air Xeno muzzle devices, but it is not compatible with Browning’s Xeno Recoil Hawg brakes.

If you’re already using Dead Air Xeno muzzle devices, that compatibility is convenient. If you’re running a different mounting system, remember that the included Xeno Radial Brake is part of the package and the OTB does not offer a direct-thread alternative.

Removable Front Cap and More Recoil Control: Nomad Ti OTB Features

The Nomad Ti OTB has a removable rear section for cleaning and a front end cap that can be replaced with compatible Dead Air muzzle brakes.

The OTB ships with tools to remove the rear section, which lets you clean it. I am not sure how often that will matter, but you can do it if you need to.

The front end cap also comes out, and Dead Air’s muzzle brakes will fit in its place. That gives you a way to add more recoil reduction at the front of the can.

For a magnum hunting rifle, that front brake option is worth noting. The suppressor already changes the way the rifle feels under recoil, and the ability to add a compatible brake at the muzzle end gives you another configuration to consider.

I like that Dead Air left some flexibility in the design rather than making everything permanently fixed. Whether you’ll need to remove the rear section frequently is another question, but the option is there.

300 PRC Range Test: Can the Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB Tame a Magnum?

I tested the OTB on a 300 PRC with Hornady 212-grain ELD-X. For reference, I fired one shot with nothing on the muzzle. It was miserable. The blast hit hard even through hearing protection, and the recoil without a brake was rough. I don’t enjoy shooting rifles unsuppressed anymore.

That unsuppressed shot made for a very clear baseline. A 300 PRC is not a mild rifle to shoot without a brake or suppressor, and the concussion is a big part of what makes it unpleasant.

Sound and Recoil: A Huge Difference on the 300 PRC

With the OTB installed, the difference was huge. With the microphone at my ear, the shot was quiet to me, and my ears weren’t ringing. It took away the concussion, the shock wave you feel in your chest and head, and it greatly reduced recoil. From the side, you could hear the bullet travel all the way downrange.

I like the tone. It isn’t the quietest suppressor I have tested, but for its weight, size and short overhang, it is plenty quiet.

That’s the important distinction with this suppressor. The Nomad Ti OTB isn’t necessarily about winning a contest for the lowest sound reading. Its appeal is getting useful suppression and meaningful recoil reduction without turning a hunting rifle into something that feels unnecessarily long.

I haven’t measured the sound reduction in decibels, so I’m not going to pretend these observations are laboratory results. My ears and the rifle’s behavior told me plenty about the shooting experience, but proper sound measurements would be needed for a numerical comparison.

The absence of ringing during this particular test also shouldn’t be taken as proof that a suppressed magnum is hearing safe. Appropriate hearing protection remains important.

Heat, Mirage and Gas Control: How the Titanium Can Held Up

Heat was well managed. After three shots, the can was too hot to grab, but not overly hot, and I didn’t see much mirage. Some very light suppressors get hot fast because the material is so thin. A minute after the last shot, the OTB was still slowly venting a little smoke out the front, which shows how well it slows the gas down.

For the shooting I did, heat and mirage weren’t major distractions. That is encouraging for a lightweight titanium hunting suppressor, although my three-shot observation isn’t a sustained-fire endurance test.

This is a hunting-oriented, magnum-rated suppressor, not a full-auto can. Those are different jobs, and it’s worth keeping that distinction in mind when evaluating the Nomad Ti OTB.

A Suppressor You Plan to Keep: Why Dead Air’s Reputation Matters

A suppressor is a long-term purchase. Manufacturer support, serviceability and warranty considerations matter alongside weight and sound performance.

There are more suppressor makers now than ever. If you ever have a baffle strike, erosion or another problem, you want the company to still be around to honor the warranty. A can from someone’s garage operation may not have anyone behind it five years from now.

Dead Air has been around a long time; it is one of the major suppressor companies, and it has the engineers to back its designs. That is worth something when you are buying a can you plan to keep for years.

That doesn’t mean a smaller suppressor company can’t make an excellent product. It means manufacturer support deserves a place on the checklist, especially when you’re spending this kind of money on equipment you expect to use for a long time.

The Nomad Ti OTB’s removable components and established mounting system add to that consideration. Performance matters today, but what happens when something needs attention down the road matters too.

Before You Buy the Nomad Ti OTB: The Tradeoffs You Need to Know

There is no direct-thread option, so you are committed to a Xeno muzzle device, and the 10.5-ounce weight becomes 12.5 once the included brake is counted. It is not compatible with Browning’s Xeno Recoil Hawg brakes. It is not full-auto rated, and short 5.56 barrels need to be at least 12.5 inches.

I haven’t put it on a sound meter yet, and it isn’t the quietest can I have tested. If maximum suppression matters more to you than length and weight, keep that in mind.

There are also practical fit considerations with any over-the-barrel suppressor. Because part of the body extends rearward over the barrel, you need adequate clearance for the suppressor and the rifle’s existing components. The OTB accommodates barrels up to 1 inch in diameter, but barrel diameter is only part of the fit question.

For me, the trade-offs are reasonable on a hunting rifle. If you want the simplest possible direct-thread mounting system, this isn’t it. If you want the absolute quietest suppressor regardless of dimensions, there may be better choices. But if you’re trying to keep a magnum rifle light, compact and pleasant to shoot, the Nomad Ti OTB makes a strong argument for itself.

Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB Pros and Cons: Big Benefits, Real Compromises

Pros:

Adds only 4.6 inches beyond the muzzle despite its 7.65-inch overall length.

Lightweight 10.5-ounce, 3D-printed Grade 5 titanium construction.

Magnum-rated for .30 caliber cartridges up to .300 RUM and 7mm Backcountry.

Excellent rifle balance during my 300 PRC testing.

Significant subjective reduction in muzzle blast, concussion and felt recoil.

Minimal mirage observed during the three-shot range sequence.

Includes the Xeno Radial Brake and offers removable components.

Established manufacturer with long-term support considerations.

Cons:

No direct-thread version available.

Mounted weight increases to about 12.5 ounces with the included brake.

Not compatible with Browning Xeno Recoil Hawg brakes.

Not full-auto rated.

Barrel restrictions apply to shorter 5.56 rifles and certain magnum cartridges.

Not the quietest suppressor I’ve tested.

Calibrated sound meter results are not yet available from this test.

Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB Verdict: The Hunting Suppressor I’d Carry

After testing the Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB on a 300 PRC, its short muzzle extension, balanced handling and recoil reduction were the standout features.

I’m a fan. The Nomad Ti OTB adds only 4.6 inches to the muzzle, keeps the rifle balanced, sounds good, cuts recoil and handles heat well, all in a 10.5-ounce titanium can rated for magnums. For a hunting rifle you carry on a sling or through brush, the short overhang is a big deal.

It isn’t the quietest can on the market, and I would like a direct-thread option. But for hunters who want a light, short and well-supported magnum suppressor, I don’t think you can go wrong with it.

The real selling point isn’t simply that Dead Air made another lightweight titanium suppressor. It’s the way the Nomad Ti OTB packages that suppressor around the barrel instead of putting all its length ahead of the muzzle.

At $1,049 MSRP, it’s a serious purchase, but the combination of magnum capability, compact handling and manageable weight gives it a clear purpose. If you’re building a hunting rifle where every ounce and every inch matter, this is one I’d put on the shortlist.

Bottom line: The Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB makes the most sense for hunters who want the benefits of a magnum-rated suppressor without sacrificing the way their rifle carries and handles. After shooting it on a 300 PRC, that 4.6-inch muzzle extension is still the feature that impresses me most.

Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB FAQ: Price, Weight, Length and Compatibility

How much does the Dead Air Nomad Ti OTB cost?

The MSRP is $1,049.

How much does the Nomad Ti OTB weigh?

The can weighs 10.5 ounces.
