A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunowners.org\/na092625\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-report-gun-industry-debanking\" title=\"Federal Report Backs Gun Industry\u2019s Debanking Complaints\">2025 GOA campaign<\/a> accused major banks of using \u201cvalues-based\u201d standards to freeze lawful firearm businesses out of financial services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-nine-major-banks-examined\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nine Major Banks Examined<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OCC reviewed the nine largest national banks under its supervision:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>JPMorgan Chase<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bank of America<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Citibank<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wells Fargo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U.S. Bank<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capital One<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PNC Bank<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TD Bank<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BMO Bank<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together, those institutions held approximately $12.7 trillion in assets as of September 2025. That represented about 76 percent of all assets supervised by the OCC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency reviewed nearly 100,000 complaints and obtained roughly 50,000 documents containing approximately 420,000 pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.occ.gov\/news-issuances\/news-releases\/2026\/nr-occ-2026-90.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-report-gun-industry-debanking\" title=\"Federal Report Backs Gun Industry\u2019s Debanking Complaints\">OCC\u2019s findings<\/a>, all nine banks maintained policies between 2020 and September 2025 that could encourage or influence decisions to deny financial services based on beliefs, affiliations or lawful business activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not necessarily mean all nine banks targeted firearm companies. The report says several banks restricted financing for firearm manufacturers or retailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-firearm-companies-made-the-list\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Firearm Companies Made the List<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OCC found that some banks restricted services to companies selling firearms they labeled \u201cassault-style\u201d or \u201cmilitary-style.\u201d Certain firearm accessories were also included in some policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Comptroller Jonathan Gould described one case in which a bank refused to assist a firearm company with an initial public offering. The company\u2019s lawful firearm-sales policies reportedly did not align with the bank\u2019s internal standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/springfield-armory-m1a-standard-issue-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-report-gun-industry-debanking\" title=\"Federal Report Backs Gun Industry\u2019s Debanking Complaints\">Springfield M1A Standard Issue: The M14 Still Hits Hard<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is the kind of line GOA has been drawing attention to. A bank can evaluate credit risk, fraud exposure and a customer\u2019s ability to repay. The problem comes when a lawful gun business is denied service because executives dislike what it sells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-changes-now\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Changes Now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Donald Trump signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/08\/guaranteeing-fair-banking-for-all-americans\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-report-gun-industry-debanking\" title=\"Federal Report Backs Gun Industry\u2019s Debanking Complaints\">Executive Order 14331<\/a> in August 2025. It directed federal regulators to examine politically motivated debanking and remove vague \u201creputation risk\u201d standards from their supervisory systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OCC says it has since removed reputation risk from its supervisory framework. The agency is also improving its complaint process and considering a bank\u2019s debanking record when reviewing major applications, including mergers and branch expansions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not force banks to approve every customer or loan. Gould emphasized that banks may still reject customers based on legitimate, objective financial risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What they should not do is substitute politics for underwriting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the firearms industry, that is a meaningful distinction. A gun shop should face the same financial questions as any other lawful business, not a political loyalty test created in a corporate boardroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report does not end debanking overnight. It does, however, place federal findings behind complaints the Second Amendment community has raised for years. And that gives gun businesses something they have not always had in this fight: receipts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>*** <a
