He also allegedly banged on the door and a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loesch retrieved a Kahr PM9 handgun. The footage reportedly shows a red laser being aimed at Murray from inside the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is where the situation took a major turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/best-revolver-ever-made-colts-python-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\">Colt Python Is Back: Should You Buy New or Vintage?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the affidavit, Murray moved away from the entrance and picked up a lawn chair. Loesch then unlocked the door, opened it and stepped outside while holding his handgun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Murray allegedly threw the chair toward Loesch. Loesch fired, blocked the chair with his arm and fired again. One bullet was later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denvergazette.com\/2026\/10\/06\/minor-shot-by-lafayette-man-was-acting-erratically-affidavit-says\/?\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\">recovered<\/a> from the chair. The second struck Murray in the abdomen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The footage reportedly shows Loesch ordering the wounded teenager not to move. At one point, he placed a foot on Murray\u2019s hand while <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/army-veteran-gets-emotional-cop-points-gun\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7842\">pointing the gun<\/a> at his back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loesch remained at the scene and cooperated with police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-teen-may-never-walk-again\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teen May Never Walk Again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Murray suffered serious injuries to his bowel, spine and kidney, according to the arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His mother told<em> CBS Colorado<\/em> that he spent time in intensive care and underwent two surgeries. She said he could remain hospitalized for two or three months and might never walk again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loesch told investigators that Murray\u2019s behavior frightened him. He described the shooting as a \u201creactionary moment\u201d after the teenager came toward him with the chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police arrested Loesch two days later after reviewing witness statements and video evidence. He posted a $25,000 bond and was released under <a href=\"https:\/\/lafayetteco.gov\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/10251\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\">conditions<\/a> that prohibiting him from possessing weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The charges remain allegations. Loesch is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-does-colorado-s-make-my-day-law-apply\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does Colorado\u2019s \u2018Make My Day\u2019 Law Apply?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Colorado\u2019s \u201cMake My Day\u201d law provides broad protection when someone unlawfully enters an occupied dwelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the statute specifically requires that the other person has made an unlawful entry into the home. The occupant must also reasonably believe the intruder <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/concealed-carriers-rarely-commit-crimes-finds-illinois-i-team-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7843\">committed or intended another crime<\/a> and might use physical force against an occupant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the allegations, Murray tried the door but never crossed the threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CBS Colorado legal analyst Raj Chohan said that distinction likely takes the shooting outside the state\u2019s \u201cMake My Day\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/content.leg.colorado.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/olls\/crs2024-title-18.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\">protections<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not necessarily eliminate every possible self-defense argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loesch\u2019s attorneys could argue that the chair represented an immediate threat capable of causing serious injury. Prosecutors can counter that Loesch opened the door and stepped outside after Murray had moved away from the entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That decision could become the central issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The affidavit also says Loesch initially intended to fire a warning shot. He reportedly told detectives that he kept a standard ball round in the chamber for that purpose, followed by hollow points in the magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That statement may also receive plenty of attention in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-would-you-have-done\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Would You Have Done?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This case does not present a clean home-invasion scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Murray allegedly tried to open the door, acted erratically and eventually threw a chair. However, he apparently never entered the home. Loesch also chose to open the door and confront him rather than remain behind the locked door and <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/shoot-first-call-911-911-call-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-teen\" title=\"Colorado Homeowner Charged After Shooting Teen Outside His Door\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7841\">call 911<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Was Loesch protecting himself from an immediate threat?
