A cheap plastic stock flexes every time you load a bipod. Neither one cares how much you paid for the barrel. That is why so many serious bolt guns end up in an aluminum chassis. The action sits on a rigid, machined bedding surface, and everything you touch adjusts to fit you.

The tradeoff is weight and money. A full competition chassis can weigh more than an entire hunting rifle and cost more than the action. Some of that is worth it. Some of it is just rail space you will never use. So it pays to know what you are buying before you start bolting on weights.

Which are the best rifle chassis in 2026? We pulled the systems GunsAmerica Digest reviewers actually built up and shot. One gave first-round hits from 300 meters out past 1,200. One helped a factory Howa print 19 of 20 groups under an inch. Another tightened groups on a Bergara just by clamping the recoil lug. We list the year we reviewed each one and which current model it led to.

If you would rather buy a complete rifle, our best long range rifles guide covers factory guns. This one is about the best rifle chassis for dropping your own action into, from a budget hunting setup to a full competition rig. Most chassis are cut for the Remington 700 footprint, and many also offer Tikka, Howa and others. Clones are not always perfect clones. Our reviewers had to adjust magazine height or mill a magazine release on custom actions with larger bolts, so check the maker’s compatibility list before you order. Most chassis use AICS pattern magazines, which are easy to find.

Weight and What You Are Using It For

A competition chassis that weighs 6 pounds bare, plus steel weights, makes a heavy rifle that barely moves under recoil. That is great from a barricade and miserable on a mountain. A hunting setup wants a lighter chassis that still gives you a rigid bedding surface. Decide if you are carrying this rifle or setting it on a bag before you choose.

Adjustability and Fit

Look for length of pull and comb height adjustments at minimum. Better chassis add butt pad height, cant and tool-free knobs that lock down tight. Fit matters because a rifle that fits lets you get behind it the same way every shot, and consistency is what tightens groups.

Rails, ARCA and Accessories

A full-length ARCA rail lets you slide a bipod or tripod clamp anywhere along the forend, which is a big deal in field and competition shooting. M-LOK slots carry weights, night vision mounts and barricade stops. A built-in bubble level and a barricade stop are nice extras. Do not pay for rail space you will never use.

Folding Stocks, Grips and Budget

A folding stock makes the rifle easier to pack and transport but adds a joint. Fixed stocks are more rigid. Grip angle matters more than most shooters think, since a near-vertical grip helps you press the trigger straight back. Chassis run from about $400 to $2,000. Spend on the features you will use, and save some money for good rings, because a chassis is only as good as the optic on top. Our best scope rings and mounts guide covers that part.

Chassis for Hunting Rifles

Most chassis are built for competition, but a lighter one makes a great hunting stock too. Look for a lighter chassis, a shape that carries well in the hand, and a sling stud or QD cup in the right spots. Skip the steel weights and the long barricade stops. A hunting chassis still gives you the rigid bedding and adjustable fit that make the best rifle chassis worth owning, without turning a deer rifle into a bench gun. Ben La Londe put a Seekins HAVAK action with a 24-inch 6mm Creedmoor barrel in it, topped it with a Nightforce ATACR and a SilencerCo Omega 300 and shot it off a bipod, a tripod and barricades.

Read our full KRG C-4 review here.

The forend is machined from one billet block, with a full-length ARCA rail, M-LOK slots, RRS-Lock holes and KRG’s push-button Delta-Lug system. Ben said it had zero flex, even with weight loaded anywhere along its length, and that the integrated barricade stop was one of the most aggressive he has used. The magazine well adjusts for length, tension and height, which mattered because his HAVAK needed the magazine to sit lower than a standard 700 action. Every buttstock adjustment is tool free, with length of pull from 13 to 14 3/8 inches and over an inch of cheek riser travel. The bare chassis weighs 6.3 pounds, and his rifle came to 20.2 pounds fully loaded. It is a competition chassis, not a hunting stock, and it does not fold. MSRP was $1,999.99 when we reviewed it in 2025.

Key Specs

Inlets: Remington 700 short and long action, Tikka T3 CTR and short action

Weight: 6.3 lb bare

Length of pull: 13 to 14 3/8 in, tool free

Forend: 16 3/4 in, ARCA, M-LOK, Delta-Lug, RRS-Lock

Magazines: AICS and AW pattern, adjustable well

Barrel clearance: Up to 1.25 in straight cylinder

Stock: Fixed, non-folding

MSRP: $1,999.99 (2025 review)

Pros

Zero forend flex in our testing

Aggressive barricade stop

Fully tool-free adjustments

Adjustable magazine well

Cons

Heavy for anything but competition

Expensive

No folding option

🛒 Check Current Price for KRG C-4 chassis on GunsAmerica

American Rifle Co. XYLO review here.

The walnut grip is the strangest thing on it and the best. Clay compared it to old K-frame revolver grips and an M14, with modern precision geometry. The one-piece 7075 aluminum chassis has a 13 3/4-inch forend with built-in ARCA and Anschutz rail, a flared magazine well and a latch that locks even plastic magazines tight. That latch actually improved feeding on his rimfire B-14R. Length of pull runs 12.75 to 15.75 inches, with 2 inches of quick adjustment. The cheek riser uses machined gears to hold its height, and a flip-out bubble level sits where you can see it from the scope. A recoil lug clamp tightened groups on his Bergara. The machining was so precise his Waypoint dropped right in, while his Bergara needed a bit of hand torque to line up the screws. Price was $1,099 when we reviewed it in 2023. American Rifle Co. no longer sells it directly, but it is on the company’s current price list and dealers like Spartan Precision Arms still stock it.

Key Specs

Material: One-piece 7075 aluminum

Inlet: Remington 700 pattern

Length of pull: 12.75 to 15.75 in

Forend: 13 3/4 in, integrated ARCA and Anschutz rail

Grip: Walnut

Extras: Recoil lug clamp, flip-out bubble level, bag rider

Stock: Fixed, non-folding

Price: $1,099 (2023 review)

Pros

Best grip and cheek riser we have used

Lug clamp tightened groups

Magazine latch locks up tight

Precise machining

Cons

Sold through dealers, not direct

Looks take some getting used to

No folding option

🛒 Check Current Price for American Rifle Company XYLO on GunsAmerica

MDT ACC Premier Gen2: Most Adjustable Rifle Chassis (2026)

True Pearce admits he nerded out on the MDT ACC. The buttstock moves for cant, length of pull and butt pad height, and the cheekpiece moves up, down, left and right, with marked thumbwheels so you can return to your settings. The 17-inch forend has a full-length ARCA rail and M-LOK on three sides. The weight system is the standout. Up to 2.4 pounds of steel slides into the barrel channel without pulling the action, and more weights bolt to the sides and buttstock, so you can tune balance and recoil. His 2019 test chassis weighed 5.23 pounds with the vertical grip, and the original ACC started at $999. That first-generation stock is what we tested. MDT now sells the ACC Premier Gen2 at $1,199.99, and it has been backordered, so check availability. A full-length aluminum chassis runs from the front of the stock to the grip under a polymer shell, which gives the rifle a rigid bedding surface without the space-age look. Jordan liked that, and so will hunters who want a chassis that looks like a stock. The near-vertical grip has swelled sides that kept his trigger finger moving straight back. The comb adjusts about an inch and stayed put, though he did not love swapping spacers and keeping track of six bolts to change length of pull. It takes AICS-style magazines and KRG spigot mounts. The Bravo alone was $439 when we reviewed it in 2019, and KRG lists it at $399.99 today. That makes it the cheapest way into a real chassis on this list.

Key Specs

Construction: Aluminum chassis under a polymer shell

Length of pull: 12.5 to 15 in with spacers (as tested on the Howa)

Comb: About 1 in of adjustment

Magazines: AICS pattern

Forend: M-LOK, KRG spigot and accessory mounts

Extras: Grip storage compartment

Tested on: Howa 1500 factory rifle

MSRP: $399.99 (2026 maker listing)

Pros

19 of 20 groups under an inch in our test

Looks like a stock, works like a chassis

Lowest price here

Comfortable vertical grip

Cons

Length of pull spacer system is fiddly

Tested as a factory Howa package

Fewer adjustments than premium chassis

🛒 Check Current Price for KRG Bravo chassis on GunsAmerica

The Bottom Line on Rifle Chassis

Buy the KRG C-4 if you shoot competition or long range from barricades and want the stiffest, most adjustable platform you can bolt an action into.
