He retrieved a handgun and went downstairs to investigate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the second floor, he encountered a man wearing black clothing, a hoodie and a face covering. The suspected intruder had also brought what the homeowner described as a roughly 60-pound husky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The veteran said the man grabbed him, causing him to fall onto his hands and knees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI shot him because I felt really threatened,\u201d he told <em>CBS<\/em>. \u201cHe had already made this deep intrusion into my home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/glock-43x-ca-california-handgun-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"vietnam-veteran-shoots-san-francisco-home-intruder\" title=\"'Nam Vet Shoots Masked Intruder During San Fran Break-In\">Hell Froze Over: Glock 43X CA Hits California<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The homeowner reportedly fired one shot and believed he struck the man near the hip or buttocks. He suffered minor scrapes to his hands and knees during the confrontation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The masked man fled, leaving bloodstained shoe prints leading toward Golden Gate Park.
