Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best Trijicon Optics In 2026

Trijicon makes optics for nearly every gun you own, so start with the platform.

Rifle Red Dots: MRO Family

The MRO, short for Miniature Rifle Optic, is Trijicon’s rifle dot. The original MRO was our 2020 reviewer’s best deal in red dots. The MRO HD added a selectable 68 MOA circle dot reticle and clearer glass for a magnifier, and Trijicon unveiled the MRO SD at NRA 2025 with a crisp 2 MOA dot tuned for magnifiers and night vision. A green dot MRO also launched at $613 MSRP in 2018. To compare the MRO against Aimpoint, Holosun and others, see our best AR-15 red dots.

Pistol Dots: RMR, RMR HD And RCR

The RMR set the footprint many pistols are cut for. In 2023 Trijicon launched the open RMR HD and the enclosed RCR, both on the original RMR footprint with top loading batteries, and our team torture tested both on video. That is a video test with a short written write up, so we do not rank it here. For pistol dots across brands, see our best pistol red dots, and for a value alternative, our best Holosun red dots.

Prisms And ACOGs

The ACOG is a fixed power prism sight lit by fiber optics and tritium, with no batteries. Trijicon’s Compact ACOG began shipping with a Q-LOC mount at SHOT Show 2023, a 1.5x optic built for use inside 200 yards. We have news coverage, not a full review, so see our best prism optics for ARs for ranked picks.

LPVOs And Riflescopes

The VCOG is Trijicon’s combat LPVO, and our review is below. Trijicon’s Credo line covers hunters, with Credo and Credo HX scopes listed at $799 to $1,799 MSRP in 2020, and a Credo 1-10×28 LPVO shown at SHOT Show 2024 at $2,200 MSRP in 2024. For LPVOs from every brand, see our best LPVO scopes.

Night Sights

Trijicon tritium sights are still a top upgrade for a carry pistol. Our HD XR review is below, and we also installed HD XR sights on a Glock at about $120 in 2017. For more options, see our top night sights for handguns.

Battery Life And Durability

Trijicon publishes battery figures and our reviewers checked them. The MRO SD is rated for three years on one CR2032, the RMR Type 2 for two years on a mid setting, and the MRO HD for 2.5 years with the dot only but just 75 days with the circle reticle. Our RMR reviewer’s one gripe was that the RMR Type 2 still makes you remove the sight to change the battery.

Best Trijicon Optics Ranked: 2026 Product Roundup

Trijicon MRO SD With 3x Magnifier: Best Trijicon Optic Overall (2026)

The Trijicon MRO SD with 3x Magnifier is the best Trijicon optic overall because it gives an AR-15 a fast 1x red dot with a crisp 2 MOA dot plus a flip to side 3x for reach, with night vision settings and a three year battery. Our reviewer said hits feel automatic. Review year: 2025.

Read our full Trijicon MRO SD and 3x review here.

He ran the combo on an AR-15 and praised the enlarged objective that reduces the tube effect, the ambidextrous brightness dial with eight settings including two for night vision, and the sub flush adjusters that hold zero. The magnifier rides a quick release mount and works with full or one third co witness. His cons were added weight compared with a bare dot, a flip to side that takes practice, and a premium price. MSRP is $1,472 for the combo in 2026, unchanged from the time of review (2025).

Key Specs

- Type: 1×25 red dot plus 3x magnifier

- Reticle: 2.0 MOA dot

- Brightness: 8 settings, 2 night vision

- Battery: CR2032, 3 years at setting 3

- Adjustment: 1/2 MOA clicks, 70 MOA travel

- Weight: 4.8 oz (optic only)

- Review year: 2025

- Price: $1,472 MSRP for the combo (2026)

Pros

- Crisp 2 MOA dot

- Instant flip to 3x

- Night vision compatible

- Long battery life

Cons

- Heavier than a bare dot

- Premium price

Trijicon RMR Type 2 Green Dot: Best Trijicon Pistol Optic (2026)

The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Green Dot is the best Trijicon pistol optic because it is the same duty proven RMR, with a forged housing that diverts impact away from the lens, now with a 3.25 MOA green dot. Our reviewer has a bad astigmatism, and he said the green dot simply stands out more for him. Review year: 2025.

Read our full Trijicon RMR green dot review here.

He admitted he had not put enough rounds through this specific dot to call it fully tested, but he has thousands of rounds through other RMRs and trusts the design. In his time with it there was no flicker and no issues. It is waterproof to 20 meters and weighs 1.2 ounces. His one criticism: Trijicon did not add a top loading battery, so you still remove the sight to swap the CR2032. MSRP is $810 in 2026, the same as at the time of review (2025). For more pistol dots, see our pistol red dot guide linked in the buyer’s guide.

Key Specs

- Type: open pistol reflex sight

- Reticle: 3.25 MOA green dot

- Weight: 1.2 oz

- Waterproof: 20 m

- Battery: CR2032, 2 years at mid setting

- Review year: 2025 (hands-on impressions)

- Price: $810 MSRP (2026)

Pros

- Proven RMR durability

- Green dot easier for some eyes

- No issues in testing

Cons

- Bottom loading battery

- Pricey

- Short hands-on test

Trijicon MRO HD: Best Trijicon For Shotguns And Hunting (2026)

The Trijicon MRO HD is the best Trijicon for shotguns and hunting because its large aperture, sharp aspherical lens and selectable circle dot reticle made fast shots easy in our field test. Our reviewer, who has astigmatism and implanted lenses, said it was the best red dot solution he has found. Review year: 2021.

Read our full Trijicon MRO HD field test here.

He mounted it on a light 12 gauge firing three inch, two ounce TSS loads and took two Rio Grande turkeys with two shots through several days of rough, dusty use. He spent most of the hunt at brightness setting 2 under the Texas sun. The circle reticle eats battery, 75 days at setting 3 compared with 2.5 years for the dot alone. MSRP is $1,064 with a low mount in 2026, up from $969 MSRP, about $650 street, at the time of review (2021). A second reviewer paired it with the 3x magnifier and found the HD dot much crisper than the original’s under magnification, at $1,400 for the set in 2021.

Key Specs

- Type: 1×25 red dot

- Reticle: 2 MOA dot or 68 MOA circle dot

- Weight: 5.6 oz with low mount

- Waterproof: 100 ft

- Battery: 2.5 years dot only; 75 days circle

- Review year: 2021

- Price: $1,064 MSRP with low mount (2026); $969 at the time of review (2021)

Pros

- Big aperture, fast pickup

- Circle dot reticle option

- Shrugged off 12 gauge recoil

Cons

- Short battery life with circle reticle

- Review is from 2021

Trijicon VCOG 1-8×28: Best Trijicon LPVO (2026)

The Trijicon VCOG 1-8×28 is the best Trijicon LPVO because it tracked perfectly in our test and is tough enough that the Marine Corps chose it as its Squad Common Optic. Our reviewer called it an amazingly good and functional optic. Review year: 2021.

Read our full Trijicon VCOG 1-8×28 review here.

He mounted it on an AR-15 and shot the box at 100 yards. After 16 clicks up, his shot hit almost exactly 4.0 inches higher, and every four clicks moved impact one inch as advertised. The first focal plane reticle keeps holds true at any power, and the integrated mount clamps straight onto a Picatinny rail. The downsides are weight, about 31.5 ounces, which rules it out for a mountain rifle, and price, now $3,528 MSRP with a LaRue mount in 2026, up from $2,800 suggested retail at the time of review (2021).

Key Specs

- Type: 1-8×28 first focal plane LPVO

- Reticle: segmented circle with MOA crosshair dot, 11 brightness settings

- Adjustment: 1/4 MOA (MRAD also offered)

- Weight: about 31.5 oz

- Battery: AA, 633 hours at setting 6

- Review year: 2021

- Price: $3,528 MSRP with LaRue mount (2026); $2,800 at the time of review (2021)

Pros

- Perfect tracking

- First focal plane

- Integrated mount

- Military proven

Cons

- Heavy

- Expensive

Trijicon REAP-IR And IR-HUNTER Thermals: Best Trijicon Thermal (2026)

The Trijicon REAP-IR and IR-HUNTER thermals are the best Trijicon thermal optics because they let our reviewer drop hogs at night out to about 250 yards in a wind blown West Texas field. He said the REAP-IR made that shot possible. Review year: 2022. Note that he tested pre-production units.

Read our full Trijicon thermal hunt review here.

With a 60mm REAP-IR on a .308 AR, he missed a broadside running hog, saw the splash in the thermal, corrected his lead and dropped it. The next night he took two hogs inside 75 yards with a 35mm IR-HUNTER and said the image was sharp enough to see breath and blood. Upgrades included forged aluminum housings, Q-LOC mounts, a manual focus on 60mm models and USB-C for external power. The flaw: his pre-production REAP-IR had a glitch that burned through CR123 batteries in about seven minutes, so they ran it from a battery pack. Current MSRP runs $7,209 to $9,784 in 2026, against about $6,000 to $9,000 at the time of review (2022).

Key Specs

- Models: REAP-IR (35mm to 60mm), IR-HUNTER

- Housing: forged 7075 aluminum

- Mount: Q-LOC quick release

- Reticles: MRAD, MOA, .223, .308 and 300 BLK BDC

- Power: CR123 plus USB-C external

- Review year: 2022 (pre-production units)

- Price: $7,209 to $9,784 MSRP (2026); about $6,000 to $9,000 at the time of review (2022)

Pros

- Hogs at about 250 yards at night

- Sharp image

- Multiple BDC reticles

Cons

- Very expensive

- Battery glitch on a pre-production unit

Trijicon HD XR Night Sights: Best Trijicon Pistol Sights (2026)

The Trijicon HD XR Night Sights are the best Trijicon pistol sights because they keep the big, bright front ring of the HD for fast close range shots while narrowing the front post for precision. Our reviewer said they give you more while not really taking anything away. Review year: 2017, so this is an older review.

Read our full Trijicon HD XR review here.

He installed them on his carry M&P9 and measured the front post at .127 inch with calipers, against .150 for the original HD. They were just as fast as the HDs for flash sight pictures, and when he slowed down and pushed distance they let him tighten his groups. The catch is price, $175 MSRP at the time of review (2017), with current HD XR sets listed at $192 MSRP in 2026, and he said he would not replace working HD sights just for the upgrade. For more options see our night sight guide linked above.

Key Specs

- Type: tritium night sights

- Front: .122 in post with orange or yellow ring

- Rear: U notch, two tritium dots, flat front face

- Review year: 2017

- Price: $192 MSRP per set (2026); $175 at the time of review (2017)

Pros

- Fast up close

- More precise at distance

- One handed racking ledge

Cons

- Pricey for sights

Trijicon MRO: Best Used Trijicon Rifle Dot (2026)

The Trijicon MRO is the best used Trijicon rifle dot because our reviewer called it the best deal in red dots, a near perfect balance of cost and features from a name known for durability. He liked it so much he bought one, and it rode on his duty AR. Review year: 2020, so check today’s price.

Read our full Trijicon MRO review here.

He wanted a duty grade dot without paying $700 to $800, and he was shocked to find the MRO at a street price of $440 at the time of review (2020). Trijicon no longer lists the original MRO; the MRO SD that replaced it lists at $786 MSRP without a mount in 2026, so look for the original used. He liked the 25mm lens, the top illumination dial, the recessed adjusters and that it is made in the USA. His later MRO HD review found the original’s dot showed some distortion under a magnifier, so if you plan to add one, look at the HD or SD instead.

Key Specs

- Type: 1×25 rifle red dot

- Reticle: 2 MOA dot

- Battery: about 5 years at setting 3

- Made in: USA

- Review year: 2020

- Price: Discontinued; last known $440 street (2020); MRO SD successor $786 MSRP (2026)

Pros

- Strong value

- Duty grade durability

- Long battery life

Cons

- Dot distorts some under magnification

Final Thoughts On The Best Trijicon Optics Of 2026

The best Trijicon optic for most shooters is the MRO SD with the 3x magnifier, a fast, rugged AR setup with a three year battery. The RMR green dot is the pistol pick, and the MRO HD is the hunter’s and shotgunner’s choice. The VCOG is the serious LPVO, the REAP-IR and IR-HUNTER own the night, and the HD XR sights upgrade any carry gun. The original MRO is discontinued but worth finding used.

Several of these reviews are years old, so check current models and pricing. Every pick here comes from a GunsAmerica Digest review, gripes included.

Key Specs

-

- Type: 1-8×28 first focal plane LPVO

- Reticle: segmented circle with MOA crosshair dot, 11 brightness settings

- Price: $3,528 MSRP with LaRue mount (2026); $2,800 at the time of review (2021)

Key Specs

- Power: CR123 plus USB-C external

- Review year: 2022 (pre-production units)

-

- Hogs at about 250 yards at night

- Price: $192 MSRP per set (2026); $175 at the time of review (2017)

- More precise at distance

- One handed racking ledge

Key Specs

-

- Type: 1×25 rifle red dot

- Reticle: 2 MOA dot

- Price: Discontinued; last known $440 street (2020); MRO SD successor $786 MSRP (2026)

Pros

-

- Strong value

- Duty grade durability

- Long battery life

Cons

Final Thoughts On The Best Trijicon Optics Of 2026

The best Trijicon optic for most shooters is the MRO SD with the 3x magnifier, a fast, rugged AR setup with a three year battery. The RMR green dot is the pistol pick, and the MRO HD is the hunter’s and shotgunner’s choice. The VCOG is the serious LPVO, the REAP-IR and IR-HUNTER own the night, and the HD XR sights upgrade any carry gun. The original MRO is discontinued but worth finding used.
