Buyer’s Guide: How To Choose The Best Kimber Pistols In 2026

Kimber pistols come in a few distinct families. Start with the platform.

1911, 2011, Or Striker Fired

Most Kimbers are single action 1911s or scaled-down 1911-style pistols. The KDS9c and 2K11 are double-stack designs with 1911-style triggers. The R7 Mako is Kimber’s striker-fired micro-compact. The Micro series shrinks the 1911 to pocket size in 9mm and .380.

Capacity

Capacity varies a lot. The 2K11 Target (OR) holds 20+1 in 9mm, the CDS9 ships with 13 and 15 round magazines, and the KDS9c holds 15. The single-stack Aegis Elite Pro came with a 9-round magazine, and the Micro 9 and Micro CDP hold 6+1. Kimber offers 10-round magazines for restricted states on several models.

Triggers

Single action triggers are Kimber’s strength. Our KDS9c broke at a clean 3.25 pounds and the Aegis Elite Pro at about 5 pounds. The striker-fired R7 Mako was about 5.5 pounds. The tiny Micro 9’s single action trigger averaged a little over 6 pounds.

Suppressors And Optics

Several newer Kimbers are optics ready, including the CDS9, KDS9c, R7 Mako, and 2K11 Target (OR). Our CDS9 reviewer had repeated malfunctions shooting suppressed, so test any carry gun with a can before you trust it.

Revolvers

Kimber also makes the K6s revolver. It is not a pistol, so it is not a pick here, but our Kimber K6s DCR review showed it could hit at 50 yards.

Price

Kimbers cost more than most carry guns. In our reviews, prices ran from $599 for the optic-ready R7 Mako in 2023 to $1,995 to $2,125 for the 2K11 Target (OR) in 2025. Older reviews of the Micro series and Ultra TLE II date to 2016 and 2017, so check current listings.

Best Kimber Pistols Ranked: 2026 Product Roundup

Kimber CDS9: Best Overall Kimber Pistol (2026)

The Kimber CDS9 is the best overall Kimber pistol because it earned a spot as our reviewer’s everyday carry gun after more than 1,300 rounds and 12 months of carry. It weighs only 20.8 ounces empty with an aluminum frame, ships with 13 and 15 round magazines, and has TAG Precision sights with four colors of fiber rods. MSRP was $1,129 at the time of review, with online prices closer to $875.

Read our full Kimber CDS9 review here.

Shooting slow offhand at 10 yards with 115 grain FMJ, he got 1 inch groups, and rapid fire averaged 2 to 3 inches. At 25 yards rapid groups opened to 4 to 5 inches. The big caveat: with a suppressor it had failures to return to battery, stovepipes, and failures to feed, and gas fouled his red dot. Unsuppressed, it was a reliable carry gun.

The Kimber 2K11 Target (OR) is the most accurate Kimber pistol we have tested. Our reviewer called it probably the most accurate handgun he had ever tested after Federal Punch 124 grain printed a 0.42 inch five-round group at 16 yards. It holds 20+1 in 9mm or 13+1 in .45 ACP and came with three magazines. Our review lists the 2K11 (OR) at $1,995 to $2,125.

Read our full Kimber 2K11 Target (OR) review here.

He shot 10 different loads, and Remington Golden Saber 124 grain added a 0.78 inch group. He liked the tool-less guide rod, external extractor, and aluminum grip module. His one real concern was that popular MBX magazines did not fit properly, so plan on Kimber magazines. See our best 2011 pistols guide for more.

Key Specs

- Caliber: 9mm (20+1) or .45 ACP (13+1)

The best Kimber pistol for most people is the CDS9. It survived a year of carry and 1,300 rounds and shoots 1 inch groups at 10 yards, though it did not like a suppressor. The 2K11 Target (OR) is the most accurate, the KDS9c is the double-stack carry gun, the R7 Mako is the budget pick, the Aegis Elite Pro and Ultra TLE II are the carry 1911s, the EVO SP is the single-stack 9mm, and the Micro 9 and Micro CDP are the pocket guns.

Our reviewer expected hand-sized groups from the short barrel, but his best group at 10 yards was just over 1.25 inches. He was honest that .380 ACP is not a powerhouse, but said it beats pepper spray. It is a good choice if a 9mm Micro is too much to handle.
