We verified every model below against Staccato’s current catalog in October 2026. Staccato prices are MSRP as of October 2026 from the manufacturer, and prices from our reviews are labeled at the time of review. Where we have covered a model, we link our best coverage and say plainly whether it is a full review, a hands-on first look, or a news story. Where we have not tested a model yet, we say that too. If you are comparing Staccato with other brands, see our best 2011 pistols guide. If a Staccato is more than you want to spend, see our best Staccato alternatives and best budget 2011 pistols guides.

Start with the buyer’s guide. It includes a quick answer to “which Staccato should I buy” before the full rankings.

Every Staccato is a 9mm 2011-style pistol with a single-action trigger, a bull barrel, and a reputation for being easy to shoot well. The differences come down to platform, size, weight, compensation, and magazines. Here is how to sort them out.

If you want one Staccato that can do almost everything, buy the HD P4. It has a full-size 18-round grip, a 4-inch barrel that is still carryable, Glock 17-pattern magazines, and the lowest MSRP in the full-size HD family at $2,499 as of 2026. For concealed carry, the HD C3.6 is the lightest current Staccato and takes Glock 19-size magazines. For duty, the HD P4 and the legacy P are both proven choices, and the P is the one with the longest track record on police belts. For home defense, the HD P4.5 adds barrel weight for a steadier front sight without the muzzle blast of a compensator indoors. For competition, the XC is the flattest shooting gun Staccato makes, and the XL is the choice for divisions or matches that do not allow a compensator.

If you want a compensator for carry, the HD C4X is the one. If you want the lowest price on a new Staccato, the C2 and HD C3.6 both start at $2,299 as of 2026. If none of those fit your budget, a used or Certified Pre-Owned Staccato or one of the guns in our Staccato alternatives guide is the answer.

This is the biggest decision in the lineup. The HD models (HD P4, HD P4.5, HD P4X, HD C3.6, and HD C4X) use Glock-pattern magazines. Staccato ships the full-size HD guns with two 18-round Mec-Gar magazines and says they are compatible with Glock 17-style magazines, while the compact-grip HD C3.6 and HD C4X ship with two 15-round magazines and accept most Glock 19-size magazines. HD guns also drop the grip safety, add an active firing pin block, use a higher beavertail and narrower grip, and give you mirrored ambidextrous safety and slide stop levers with a reversible magazine catch. Our SHOT Show 2025 hands-on with the HD P4 and P4.5 covers those changes in detail.

The legacy models (P, C2, XC, and XL) keep the traditional 2011 layout with a grip safety and use Staccato’s own double-stack 2011 magazines. Those magazines work very well, but they cost more than Glock-pattern magazines and are harder to find at a local counter. The legacy guns also have a slightly slimmer listed grip width, and the XC and XL have a lighter listed trigger pull. If you already own Staccato or 2011 magazines, a legacy gun still makes sense. If you are starting fresh, the HD platform is the easier gun to feed and maintain.

Staccato builds on two frame materials and two grip lengths. The steel-framed guns (HD P4, P4.5, P4X, P, XC, and XL) weigh 32 to about 38 ounces and soak up recoil, which is why they dominate duty and competition use. The aluminum-framed HD C3.6, HD C4X, and C2 weigh 24 to 25 ounces, which matters if the gun rides on your belt all day.

Grip length controls capacity and concealment. The HD full-size grip holds 18 rounds and the HD compact grip holds 15. The legacy P, XC, and XL use a full-size grip that takes 17- or 20-round magazines, and the C2 uses a 16-round compact grip. Staccato lists a 1.2 inch grip width for the HD guns we checked and 1.3 inches for the legacy guns, but the bigger difference in hand is the HD grip’s higher beavertail and the lack of a grip safety. The grip is what prints when you carry, so if concealment is a priority, choose the compact grip even if you choose a longer slide.

Every current Staccato is optics-ready. HD models use the HOST system, which mounts popular optics directly to the slide with spacer plates and allows longer screws for a more secure attachment. That keeps the optic lower and reduces the number of parts that can loosen. The legacy guns use Staccato’s plate-based optic system, which includes optic-specific mounting plates and co-witness height sights for footprints like the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro and Trijicon RMR. Our Staccato P review tested an earlier Dawson-based plate system and found it easy to work with.

Staccato says it will mount and zero a red dot for free when you buy the optic and plate with an optic-ready pistol on its own site. If the gun is for duty, check your agency’s approved optics list before you buy, because some agencies require co-witness iron sights.

Staccato’s barrel lengths run from 3.6 inches on the HD C3.6 to 5.4 inches on the XL. Shorter barrels conceal better, and longer barrels add sight radius, velocity, and steadiness. The 3.9 inch C2 and 4 inch HD P4 split the difference, and the 4.4 inch P is the classic duty length. The HD P4.5 uses a one-piece 4.5 inch sight block barrel that adds non-reciprocating mass at the muzzle for less muzzle flip.

Three current models have compensated barrels. The HD C4X and HD P4X use a 4-inch one-piece barrel with an integral compensator, and the XC uses a 5-inch island barrel with a compensator. A comp makes the gun shoot flatter, but it adds blast and flash, which matters indoors and in low light, and it can change how the gun runs with low-powered ammo. If you are not sure, start without one.

As of October 2026, Staccato’s MSRPs fall into three tiers. The entry tier starts at $2,299 as of 2026 for the C2 and the base HD C3.6. The middle tier, from about $2,499 to $3,099 as of 2026, covers the HD P4, HD P4.5, and P, with higher-priced versions adding optics, finishes, or threaded barrels. The top tier, from about $3,499 to $4,299 as of 2026, is where you find the compensated HD C4X and HD P4X and the competition-focused XL and XC.

Those are list prices from Staccato. Dealer prices vary, and lead times vary by model. When we checked, Staccato listed the base HD P4 and C2 at about 14 days and some other models at 60 days or longer. An optic, a holster, and extra magazines can easily add several hundred dollars to the real cost.

In August 2026, Staccato changed its dealer network, and the move set off a firestorm online. As we reported in Staccato’s dealer shakeup sparks firestorm, Shooters Choice was dropped from the dealer network, the overall network is getting smaller, and critics including well-known competition shooters pushed back hard. A rumor that Staccato would charge a $199 a year subscription to keep the warranty in force turned out to be false as of our 2026 coverage. Staccato Care is an optional plan, and co-CEO Buck Pierson confirmed the lifetime warranty stands.

For buyers, the practical effect is that fewer shops stock Staccato, so you may need to buy online, buy direct, or call ahead. The good news is that Staccato’s lifetime warranty now follows the pistol, so a gun bought used is covered after the new owner registers it. STI-branded guns, wear items, and aftermarket parts are excluded, so read the terms before you buy an older gun.

For HD guns, buy quality Glock-pattern magazines. Staccato sells its own HD Mec-Gar magazines in sizes from 10 to 23 rounds, and the HD full-size guns will take Glock 17-pattern magazines. For carry, stick with the factory or Mec-Gar magazines you have tested, because extended or cheap aftermarket magazines can change how the gun feeds.

For legacy guns, buy Staccato or other quality 2011 magazines that are built for 9mm. Our Staccato P reviewer noted that older STI-era 2011 magazines sometimes needed tuning to run reliably, and he found that Staccato’s newer magazines solved that problem. Keep a couple of magazines marked for carry and use the rest for practice.

Staccato sells Certified Pre-Owned pistols, including discontinued models, and sells the Staccato Care plan as an optional add-on. Because the warranty transfers, a clean used Staccato from a private seller or a GunsAmerica listing can be a smart buy.

The Staccato C and CS are no longer in production. As we reported in Staccato ends C and CS production, the company ended production on November 21, 2025, and says it will continue to support both with parts, magazines, and warranty service. The C is a used-market gun now, and our Staccato C full review is a good read if you find one at the right price. Staccato was still selling a limited number of new CS pistols while supplies last when we checked, but for a new current compact, look at the C2 or HD C3.6.

A Staccato costs two to three times as much as a good polymer striker gun, so it is fair to ask. What you get is a crisp single-action trigger, a heavy bull barrel, a gun that tracks very flat, and a strong track record with police agencies and serious competitors. Staccato says the P alone is approved by more than 2,000 law enforcement agencies. Many shooters find they shoot faster and more accurately with a Staccato than with anything else they own.

If you will train with it, carry it, or compete with it, a Staccato is worth the money for a lot of people. If you want the 2011 experience for less, the guns in our best Staccato alternatives guide get close for much less money.

If you buy one Staccato in 2026, make it the HD P4. Staccato says it is sized for both duty and concealed carry, and that is a fair description. You get a steel frame, a full-size grip that holds 18 rounds, and a 4-inch bull barrel short enough to carry in a good holster. The HD P4 weighs 32 ounces and measures 7.6 inches long and 5.6 inches tall.

When we handled the HD P4 at SHOT Show 2025, the standouts were the Glock 17 magazine compatibility, the HOST direct optic mount, the missing grip safety, and the fully ambidextrous controls. Those features fix the three biggest complaints about older 2011s: expensive magazines, extra optic plates, and controls that favor right-handed shooters. The HD P4 launched at $2,499, and the base model was still $2,499 MSRP as of October 2026, with optic and finish variants at $2,699 and $2,999 as of 2026. It was also one of the quicker models to ship when we checked.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato HD P4 on GunsAmerica

The HD C3.6 is the best Staccato for concealed carry in 2026. Staccato took the HD platform and gave it a lightweight aluminum-alloy frame, a shorter grip module, and a 3.6-inch bull barrel. At 24 ounces, it is the lightest current Staccato, and the 7.1 inch length and 4.8 inch height make it the smallest current model. We have not published a full review of the C3.6 yet, but our Kimber CDS9 review used it as a benchmark for premium compact 1911-style carry guns.

The shorter grip ships with two 15-round Mec-Gar magazines and accepts most Glock 19-size magazines, which answers a common question: yes, this is the Staccato that is closest to a Glock 19 in size and magazine compatibility. It also gets the HD family’s external extractor, active firing pin block, HOST optic system, and ambidextrous controls. MSRP ran from $2,299 to $2,999 as of October 2026 depending on configuration. It is the natural replacement for the discontinued CS and C.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato HD C3.6 on GunsAmerica

The Staccato P is the gun that put Staccato on duty belts, and it remains a current model in 2026. Staccato says the P is approved for duty by more than 2,000 law enforcement agencies. It uses a steel frame, a 4.4-inch bull barrel, and Staccato’s own 17- or 20-round 2011 magazines, and it keeps the classic 2011 grip safety.

Read our full Staccato P review here.

Our reviewer put more than 700 rounds through the P with 10 different loads and reported 100 percent reliability. Six of nine loads grouped under an inch at 15 yards, and the average was 1.05 inches. He said the 4.4 inch barrel and slide tracked and reset so well that Staccato had found a sweet spot. The MSRP was $2,499 at the time of review, without an optic. That review covered an earlier version with the Dawson optic plate system, and as of October 2026 the P lists at $2,499 to $2,799 MSRP. Our best competition guns guide also ranks the P as the best 2011 crossover between carry optics matches and duty. Pick the P over the HD P4 if you already own 2011 magazines or your agency approves the P but not the HD.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato P on GunsAmerica

For home defense, our pick is the HD P4.5. It uses the same slide as the HD P4 but adds a one-piece 4.5-inch sight block barrel. Staccato says that design keeps the slide fast while adding non-reciprocating mass at the muzzle for less muzzle flip and a steadier front sight. You get the same 18-round capacity and Glock 17-pattern magazines as the P4.

Why not a compensated model for the house? A comp adds blast and flash, and that is a real drawback when you are shooting indoors in the dark without hearing protection. The P4.5 gets some of the flat-shooting benefit through mass instead of gas, and it still has room under the dust cover for a weapon light. We got our hands on the P4.5 alongside the P4 in our SHOT Show 2025 first look, where it launched at $2,699. MSRP ran from $2,699 to $3,099 as of October 2026. Lead times were long when we checked, so plan ahead.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato HD P4.5 on GunsAmerica

The HD P4X is Staccato’s newest full-size HD gun, and Staccato says it was built for the duty belt, patrol, and professional use. It takes the integral compensator from the HD C4X and puts it on a steel frame with a full-size grip. The result is a 32.5-ounce pistol with a 4-inch compensated barrel and 18-round capacity that Staccato says delivers flat, controlled shooting under sustained fire.

If you are an officer, a serious trainer, or a home defender who prefers a comp, the P4X is the flattest-shooting duty-size Staccato. Just know the tradeoffs: more blast and flash, and a much higher price. MSRP ran from $3,599 to $3,999 as of October 2026. The P4X is new enough that we have not tested one yet, so the details here come from Staccato’s published specs.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato HD P4X on GunsAmerica

The HD C4X combines the compact HD grip and aluminum frame with a 4-inch one-piece barrel and integral compensator. Staccato says it was developed alongside a metropolitan tactical surveillance unit, and it calls the C4X the crown jewel of concealed carry. At 24.5 ounces with a 15-round Glock 19-size magazine, it carries like the C3.6 but shoots flatter.

The C4X is for the experienced carrier who wants every advantage in recoil control and is willing to pay for it. MSRP was $3,499, $3,699, and $3,899 as of October 2026 for the Standard, Preferred, and Premium versions. If you want a comp on your belt, this is the Staccato to buy. If you do not, the HD C3.6 does the same job for far less money. We have not tested the C4X yet, so this pick is based on Staccato’s specs and the HD platform we handled at SHOT Show.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato HD C4X on GunsAmerica

The XC is the best Staccato for competition. It pairs a full-size steel frame with a 5-inch one-piece island barrel and compensator, and Staccato lists a 2.5 pound trigger, the lightest in the lineup along with the XL. The island barrel design lightens the slide so it tracks easily through recoil, and the 17- or 20-round 2011 magazines give you plenty of capacity for stages.

Our 2025 shooting gift guide called the XC the top of the production 2011 market, praising its extremely flat recoil and light, crisp trigger; it listed at $4,399 MSRP at the time. Our 2011 explainer also covers the XC and XL as Staccato’s competition models. We have not published a full XC review. The XC is also popular as a home and range gun for shooters who want the flattest-shooting Staccato regardless of size. At 37.56 ounces and 8.7 inches long, it is not a carry gun for most people. MSRP was $4,299 as of October 2026, which makes it the most expensive current Staccato.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato XC on GunsAmerica

Some divisions and matches do not allow a compensator, and that is where the XL comes in. Staccato calls it the ultimate competitor, with a light, fast-cycling slide and the longest sight radius in the lineup thanks to a 5.4-inch bull barrel. Like the XC, it uses 17- or 20-round 2011 magazines and has a listed 2.5 pound trigger.

The XL is the answer to searches for the best Staccato for limited optics and similar uncompensated divisions. Our 2011 pistols explainer describes the XC and XL as Staccato’s competition guns, but we have not published a full XL review. Check your match rules for weight and size limits before you buy. MSRP ran from $3,599 to $3,899 as of October 2026.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato XL on GunsAmerica

The C2 is still a current Staccato in 2026, even though it is often confused with the discontinued C. It uses an aluminum frame, a 3.9-inch bull barrel, and a 16-round compact 2011 grip, and it weighs 25 ounces. Staccato says it can be fitted with both compact and full-size optics, and it offers barrel options including a compensated version. We covered the C2 at its SHOT Show 2020 launch, when STI became Staccato and the base C2 was $1,999 at launch, but we have not published a full C2 review.

The C2 shares the lowest MSRP in the lineup with the base HD C3.6 at $2,299 as of October 2026, and it was one of the quicker models to ship when we checked. Choose it if you prefer the legacy 2011 layout with a grip safety or already own Staccato compact magazines. If you are starting fresh, the HD C3.6 gives you Glock 19-size magazines for the same starting price.

🛒 Check Current Price for Staccato C2 on GunsAmerica

The best Staccato for most buyers in 2026 is the HD P4. It is the most versatile gun in the lineup, runs Glock-pattern magazines, and starts at the lowest MSRP of any full-size HD model. Carry buyers should look at the HD C3.6 first, duty buyers can choose between the HD P4 and the proven P, home defenders should consider the HD P4.5, and competitors should pick the XC or, for uncompensated divisions, the XL. The HD C4X and HD P4X are the picks if you want a compensator and do not mind the price.

Before you buy, read up on Staccato’s dealer shakeup so you know where to find one, and remember that the lifetime warranty transfers to used guns. If a new Staccato is out of reach, see our best Staccato alternatives, best 2011 pistols, and best budget 2011 pistols guides, or find new and used Staccatos on GunsAmerica.com.
