Two juvenile passengers were arrested in San Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Noir, the bigger question isn\u2019t whether those passengers should have been arrested. Officers conducted what the department described as a high-risk vehicle stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They recovered a loaded AR-style <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ak-47-hog-blaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7686\">rifle<\/a> described by police as a \u201cghost gun,\u201d along with suspected marijuana and mace spray. A male and female juvenile were arrested on suspicion of illegal firearm possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waymo confirmed that it stopped the vehicle after detecting a firearm-related violation of its terms of service. The company contacted emergency services and cooperated with police, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.police1.com\/traffic-stop\/waymo-pulls-over-calls-cops-on-juvenile-riders-carrying-ghost-gun\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\"><em>Los Angeles Times <\/em>reporting republished by Police1<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One important correction to Noir\u2019s opening: the available reporting does not establish that the car independently identified the gun and called police without human involvement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/bayarea\/article\/waymo-arrest-rifle-sfpd-22427672.php\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\"><em>SFGATE <\/em>reported that Waymo employees became aware of the firearm<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driverless doesn\u2019t necessarily mean human-free.  At least not yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-policy-goes-beyond-illegal-guns\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Policy Goes Beyond Illegal Guns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waymo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/waymo\/answer\/9197501?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\">published rider rules<\/a> are straightforward: \u201cDon\u2019t carry weapons of any kind.\u201d  The page does not list an exception for concealed-carry permit holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s where Noir\u2019s concern kicks in. Someone can follow the law and still violate a company\u2019s rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut it still makes me concerned,\u201d Noir says in the video, \u201cbecause I\u2019m like, wait, where does this policy begin and where does it end?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Would a visible, legally <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/new-carry-contour-emp-springfields-ccw-9mm-1911-gets-even-better-full-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7687\">carried handgun<\/a> simply end the ride? Would staff contact the passenger first? Under what circumstances would they call police?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This incident doesn\u2019t answer those questions. It involved allegations of illegal possession, not a documented encounter with a lawful concealed carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-cameras-are-part-of-the-deal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cameras Are Part of the Deal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waymo isn\u2019t hiding the presence of interior cameras. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/waymo\/answer\/9190819?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\">camera and privacy information<\/a> says they can help enforce in-car rules and promote safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support personnel may review footage and, in urgent circumstances, access live video. Those are hypothetical scenarios, not established facts about this incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a separate July case involving teenagers drinking and firing water beads from a Waymo, police said the passengers were not locked inside and could leave, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/d7163a63087671c784c1afb4eda8653e\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\"><em>Associated Press<\/em> reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-where-would-you-draw-the-line\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where Would You Draw the Line?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noir argues that corporate liability concerns can make lawful gun ownership harder without lawmakers passing another restriction. That\u2019s his broader warning, not a demonstrated explanation for Waymo\u2019s decision here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The immediate takeaway is simpler: don\u2019t assume a carry permit overrides a transportation service\u2019s weapons policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the discussion is worth having. A company can want a <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/blac-rac-best-weapon-mount\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"waymo-gun-policy-colion-noir-concealed-carry\" title=\"Waymo Robotaxi Calls Police Over a Gun\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7688\">safe vehicle<\/a>. A lawful carrier can want personal protection.
