That represents a 2.2 percent increase over the 1,091,342 adjusted checks recorded in August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FBI\u2019s unadjusted numbers showed an even larger jump. That marked a 201.6 percent increase over the 61,594 checks recorded in August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Texas led the nation with 28,030 NFA checks. Florida followed with 12,808.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The remaining top-five states were Georgia with 8,512, North Carolina with 8,269 and Pennsylvania with 5,463.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oliva said the massive increase shows that gun owners continue to invest in NFA-regulated products, particularly suppressors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe meteoric growth of over 200 percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/to-disclose-or-not-to-disclose-here-is-the-answer\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"august-2026-firearm-background-checks-nfa-surge\" title=\"Firearm Background Checks Top 1.1 Million as NFA Activity Soars 202%\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7627\">National Firearms Act<\/a> items is especially telling that Americans continue to invest in suppressors and understand and appreciate the value of using a simple device that not only preserves hearing but makes recreational shooting more enjoyable,\u201d Oliva said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGun <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/people-book-celebrates-gun-owners-across-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"august-2026-firearm-background-checks-nfa-surge\" title=\"Firearm Background Checks Top 1.1 Million as NFA Activity Soars 202%\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7628\">owners demonstrate through these purchases that Second Amendment<\/a> freedoms are fundamental to preserving personal safety and liberty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-texas-leads-adjusted-checks\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Texas Leads Adjusted Checks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GunBroker\u2019s July NICS reporting also provided a state-by-state look at firearm market activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Texas, Colorado, Florida, California and Pennsylvania recorded the highest adjusted NICS figures.  Texas also led FBI handgun checks, followed by Florida, Pennsylvania, Colorado and California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Colorado recorded the most long-gun checks. Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida and California completed the top five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-the-numbers-actually-mean\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the Numbers Actually Mean<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, NICS figures require some explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The adjusted number does not include permit checks or permit rechecks related to <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/national-right-to-carry-reciprocity\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"august-2026-firearm-background-checks-nfa-surge\" title=\"Firearm Background Checks Top 1.1 Million as NFA Activity Soars 202%\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7629\">concealed carry<\/a> applications and active permit databases. NSSF removes those checks to provide a clearer look at firearm market activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, an adjusted NICS check does not necessarily equal one firearm sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A buyer may purchase multiple firearms during one transaction. A denied or canceled transaction may still generate a check. Legal firearm transfers completed through those permits do not appear in the monthly figures, and NSSF does not attempt to estimate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means the report offers a useful market indicator, but it cannot provide an exact firearm sales total or dollar figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even with those limitations, August delivered a clear message.
