What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quite a bit, apparently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Video from a California Starbucks shows several men wearing MAGA gear surrounded by hostile protesters. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DailyBeltway\/posts\/122177210636968559\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"surrounded-starbucks-attacked-paint-what-would-you-do\" title=\"Surrounded at Starbucks and Splashed with Paint: What Would You Do?\">the Daily Beltway\u2019s report<\/a>, people poured paint on the men, shouted profanities and physically interfered as they tried to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voices in the video can be heard saying, \u201cStop\u201d and \u201cLeave them alone.\u201d At one point, someone appears to call for police. The confrontation continued as the men attempted to get out of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Daily Beltway reported that Starbucks employees took no visible action during the incident. Even then, your priority should remain the same. Create distance, find an exit and get your family or friends out with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not trade insults. Do not defend your political position. And, do not worry about looking weak in front of a crowd or camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your goal is to go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the main exit is blocked, look for another route. Move toward employees, a back door or an area with fewer people. <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/shoot-first-call-911-911-call-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"surrounded-starbucks-attacked-paint-what-would-you-do\" title=\"Surrounded at Starbucks and Splashed with Paint: What Would You Do?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7568\">Call 911<\/a> as soon as you safely can. Clearly describe yourself, your clothing and the fact that you are legally armed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That last detail could become very important when officers arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-gun-changes-everything\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Gun Changes Everything<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carrying a firearm does not give you another way to win an argument. It gives you another responsibility during an already chaotic situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paint, shouting and offensive language may constitute harassment or assault, but they do not automatically justify pulling a gun. Even being shoved or blocked may not meet the legal standard for deadly force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generally, a firearm should enter the equation only when you reasonably believe you face an immediate threat of death or serious bodily harm. State laws differ, and every incident depends on its specific facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A crowd can complicate that calculation. One person throwing paint is different from several attackers knocking someone down and continuing to kick or strike him. Age, physical ability, escape routes, weapons and the number of attackers can all change the threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-savage-110-long-range-hunter-reaching-out-in-300-prc\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"surrounded-starbucks-attacked-paint-what-would-you-do\" title=\"Surrounded at Starbucks and Splashed with Paint: What Would You Do?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7569\">reaching for the gun<\/a> too early could instantly transform you from the apparent victim into the person everyone believes is the threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep it concealed unless the danger truly reaches that level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-don-t-let-someone-take-your-gun\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t Let Someone Take Your Gun<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A physical confrontation presents another serious problem for concealed carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone could discover your firearm during the struggle and attempt to grab it. Keeping the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/altor-9mm-review-liberator-idea\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"surrounded-starbucks-attacked-paint-what-would-you-do\" title=\"Surrounded at Starbucks and Splashed with Paint: What Would You Do?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7565\">gun properly concealed<\/a> and using a quality retention holster matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protect the firearm without unnecessarily displaying it. Avoid wrestling with people if an escape route remains available. If you are knocked down or surrounded, protecting the gun may become as important as protecting your head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The attackers may not know you are armed. Keeping it that way can prevent the situation from escalating further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-expect-confusion-when-police-arrive\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expect Confusion When Police Arrive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding officers will not know who started the confrontation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may see people covered in paint, several witnesses shouting different <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-hog-hunting-40\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"surrounded-starbucks-attacked-paint-what-would-you-do\" title=\"Surrounded at Starbucks and Splashed with Paint: What Would You Do?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7566\">stories and a person with a gun<\/a>. If your firearm becomes visible, officers may initially treat you as the primary threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow commands immediately. Keep your hands visible. Do not make sudden movements or attempt to explain everything while officers are securing the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once things settle, identify witnesses and point out available video. Photograph injuries and damaged property. Preserve your clothing and any recordings. Then contact an attorney before providing a detailed statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-would-you-do\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Would You Do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Starbucks video offers concealed carriers a useful thought exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Would you immediately leave when the crowd began forming? Would you call police and wait inside? What if protesters blocked every exit? At what point would you believe the confrontation had crossed from harassment into a threat of serious bodily harm?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no clean answer for every situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best outcome is getting yourself and your companions out without touching the gun. That may not feel heroic, but it is usually the safest play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Political disagreements should never become physical attacks.
