Instead of trying to replace the M4, Benelli developed an entirely new Rear Piston Operated (R.P.O.) gas system that promises cleaner operation, less maintenance, and excellent reliability. Gas System Moves the Pistons Rearward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The headline feature of the M2-G1 is its new Rear Piston Operated gas system. Because the gas is captured closer to its source, less fouling travels throughout the operating system. After my testing, I came away convinced Benelli succeeded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-m2-g1-handguard-grip-m-lok-and-steel-qd-sockets\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">M2-G1 Handguard: Grip, M-LOK, and Steel QD Sockets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The M2-G1 immediately stands out thanks to its distinctive handguard. The front taper naturally gives my support-hand thumb a comfortable resting place, while the aggressive ribs and texturing provided plenty of grip without becoming abrasive. Better yet, the M-LOK slots are integrated cleanly into the design instead of looking like an afterthought. Too many manufacturers rely on polymer or aluminum inserts that eventually wear under heavy use. These steel inserts inspired confidence, and I had no concerns running a two-point sling throughout testing. Besides looking sharp, it never pinched or caught my thumb during reloads. The swooped trigger guard also acts like a small loading ramp that guides shells into the magazine. It let me disengage the safety quickly by slightly rolling the shotgun. However, I still needed to shift my firing hand to re-engage it with the pistol-grip model. While the modified tube handles birdshot and buckshot just fine, Benelli recommends using only cylinder or improved cylinder chokes with slugs. Even then, the shotgun remained remarkably pleasant. After dumping roughly 100 rounds almost as fast as I could reload, the handguard became hot but never too hot to hold barehanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recoil impulse deserves praise as well. The shotgun shoots quite flat, and the generous rubber buttpad spreads recoil comfortably across the shoulder. Using a shot timer, I recorded split times as low as 0.10 seconds while averaging around 0.13 seconds. Recoil eventually bruised my finger enough that I shifted my grip slightly rearward. Instead, it introduces a genuinely different operating system that accomplishes exactly what Benelli set out to achieve. Throughout my testing, it ran cleaner, stayed comfortable, cycled everything I fed it, and never experienced a single malfunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I still have a few wishes. I&#8217;d prefer a less aggressive pistol grip angle, different stock geometry, and a cylinder choke included from the factory. Fortunately, none of those complaints overshadow the overall package. Benelli also offers multiple configurations of the M2-G1 to choose from, including a fixed stock and various color schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re looking for a premium tactical shotgun that blends innovative engineering with outstanding reliability, the Benelli M2-G1 deserves a serious look.
