Moore<\/a><\/em>, its lawsuit challenging Senate Bill 334, which was signed into law by Gov. Wes Moore earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NRA, other groups sue Maryland over new &quot;Glock switch&quot; gun ban\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a4DByzwRbO0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the law stands, it will prohibit the manufacture, sale, purchase, transfer and receipt of what Maryland calls a &#8220;machine <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/silencerco-omega-36m-centerfire-suppressor\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7272\">gun convertible pistol&#8221;<\/a> beginning Jan. 1, 2027. The statute defines those firearms as handguns containing a cruciform trigger bar: a design feature found in Glock pistols and many Glock-pattern handguns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SAF argues the law doesn&#8217;t simply target illegal machine gun conversion devices. Instead, it bans some of the most commonly owned semiautomatic handguns in America because they could be illegally modified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuit was originally filed in May, immediately after Gov. Moore signed the legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-prodigy-coa-tested-100-yards-zero-malfunctions\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/springfield-prodigy-coa-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\">Prodigy COA Tested: 100 Yards, Zero Malfunctions<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Anti-gun politicians will constantly tell you that &#8216;no one is coming for your guns,'&#8221; said SAF Senior Director of Legal Operations Bill Sack. &#8220;And then they pass bills like this that bans the most commonly owned handgun in America. Both can&#8217;t be true.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sack argued the law amounts to an attempt to ban an entire class of constitutionally protected firearms &#8220;one chunk of the market at a time.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also pointed to Supreme Court precedent recognizing <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-june-backcountry-carry-solution-sig-sauer-p320-xten-10mm\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7268\">handguns as the &#8220;quintessential&#8221; self-defense firearm<\/a> protected by the Second Amendment, adding that Glock-style pistols are among the most commonly owned handguns both in Maryland and nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the complaint, the case centers on a straightforward constitutional question: whether Maryland can ban Glock and Glock-style pistols simply because they can be unlawfully converted into fully automatic firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state says the legislation is aimed at addressing the growing use of illegal machine gun conversion devices, often referred to as &#8220;Glock switches,&#8221; which can convert compatible semiautomatic pistols into fully automatic weapons. Those conversion devices are already prohibited under federal law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SAF contends banning the underlying <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-hog-hunting-40\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7270\">handgun goes<\/a> far beyond targeting illegal conversion devices and instead restricts firearms that millions of Americans legally own for self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-how-to-zero-a-red-dot-in-5-simple-steps\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/how-to-zero-a-red-dot\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\">How to Zero a Red Dot in 5 Simple Steps<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joining SAF in the lawsuit are Atlantic Guns, the National Rifle Association, Firearms Policy Coalition, and two private citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-files-suit-to-protect-4a-rights-of-high-school-gun-owner\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7269\">SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb<\/a> compared the legislation to restricting constitutional rights because they might be abused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Laws like this strip peaceable Americans from access to constitutionally protected arms and seek to bully and hold liable lawful manufacturers and sellers for the criminal misuse of firearms,&#8221; Gottlieb said. &#8220;This law is the equivalent to banning free speech in the hopes of preventing fraud. It&#8217;s bad policy and unconstitutional. We look forward to getting it tossed.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A preliminary injunction would prevent Maryland from enforcing the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/should-this-father-have-confronted-this-armed-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"maryland-glock-ban-preliminary-injunction\" title=\"SAF Seeks Injunction to Stop Maryland's Glock Ban\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"7271\">Glock ban<\/a> while the litigation moves forward.
