Josh Shapiro\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AYeuc0HkFTw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yeah\u2026 this story gets complicated fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Black Lions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/blpfisntlhq\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"black-lion-party-fighting-philadelphia-after-gun-permits-were-revoked\" title=\"Black Lion Party Fighting Philadelphia After Gun Permits Were Revoked\">have<\/a> drawn major attention in recent months for conducting heavily armed patrols through Philadelphia neighborhoods while openly carrying rifles and wearing black uniforms modeled after the historic Black Panther Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on who you ask, they\u2019re either community defenders, political activists, or a walking heart attack for suburban Facebook groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The permit revocations reportedly stem from a January 31 confrontation between members of the group and a Philadelphia <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/graphic-footage-officer-fatally-shoots-man-pretending-to-draw-weapon\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"black-lion-party-fighting-philadelphia-after-gun-permits-were-revoked\" title=\"Black Lion Party Fighting Philadelphia After Gun Permits Were Revoked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"6073\">police officer<\/a> in North Philly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Birdsong, members noticed an officer had parked his cruiser facing the wrong direction and partially blocking traffic. Words were exchanged after someone in the group told the officer to move the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Birdsong claims the situation escalated when the officer allegedly confronted him with a hand on his firearm before additional officers arrived. No arrests were made. No shots were fired. Everyone eventually walked away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-taurus-tx9-sub-compact-review-duty-dna-for-edc\">SEE ALSO: <a letters showed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letters reportedly cited \u201cgood cause\u201d and concerns over \u201ccharacter and reputation,\u201d while also claiming the armed encounter created \u201can unreasonable danger to <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/maryland-cop-shoots-groundhog\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"black-lion-party-fighting-philadelphia-after-gun-permits-were-revoked\" title=\"Black Lion Party Fighting Philadelphia After Gun Permits Were Revoked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"6076\">public<\/a> safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group\u2019s attorney, Lyandra Retacco, argues the city is abusing vague language inside Pennsylvania\u2019s firearm licensing laws to punish protected First and <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/people-book-celebrates-gun-owners-across-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"black-lion-party-fighting-philadelphia-after-gun-permits-were-revoked\" title=\"Black Lion Party Fighting Philadelphia After Gun Permits Were Revoked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"6072\">Second Amendment<\/a> activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And honestly, even people who don\u2019t love the Black Lions politically may find themselves paying attention to that argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because once <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/gallup-biggest-threat-to-society-government-not-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"black-lion-party-fighting-philadelphia-after-gun-permits-were-revoked\" title=\"Black Lion Party Fighting Philadelphia After Gun Permits Were Revoked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"6075\">governments start deciding whose \u201ccharacter\u201d qualifies for gun<\/a> rights, things get murky fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case has also attracted support from Eric Davanzo, a Republican lawmaker backing legislation that would remove Pennsylvania\u2019s controversial \u201ccharacter and reputation\u201d standard from the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/state-lawmakers-launch-new-gun-control-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"black-lion-party-fighting-philadelphia-after-gun-permits-were-revoked\" title=\"Black Lion Party Fighting Philadelphia After Gun Permits Were Revoked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"6074\">state\u2019s gun<\/a> laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Birdsong says the group\u2019s patrols haven\u2019t stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He claims he\u2019s continued leading them while carrying only non-lethal tools since losing his permit, while other licensed members remain armed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in classic Philly fashion, Birdsong already sounds ready for round two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI expect to get my license back,\u201d he told The Trace, \u201cand after that I\u2019m going to sue the hell out of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"
