(<em>Photo: Everytown<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Everytown for Gun Safety is now targeting the Kroger Company as part of its ongoing quest to eradicate the open carry of long guns inside public stores and restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the pro-gun control organization largely financed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced its plan to call on the company&#8217;s leaders of Kroger, Michael Ellis, president and chief operating officer, and W. Rodney McMullen, chief executive officer, to prohibit patrons from toting firearms into its supermarkets, specifically those who participate in open-carry demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe history of shootings at Kroger stores underscores the risk of allowing open carry demonstrations and rallies to continue,\u201d said Shannon Watts, Founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of the larger Everytown organization which includes Mayors Against Illegal Guns, in a press release.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23601\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/12.png\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"everytown-sets-sights-kroger\" title=\"Everytown sets sights on Kroger\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23601\" title=\"Everytown sets sights on Kroger\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23601\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/12.png\" alt=\"Apparently, this mom believes in her 2A right to openly carry a firearm. (<em>Photo: Everytown<\/em>)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s impossible for any employee to ascertain the intentions of an individual carrying an assault rifle \u2014 and given the potentially deadly outcome of mistaking a criminal for a protester, or vice versa, it is imperative that the largest supermarket retailer in the nation stands up for public safety,&#8221; added Watts.<\/p>\n<p>Kroger stores include: Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Gerbes Super Markets, Ralphs, Smith\u2019s, Harris Teeter, Jay C Food Stores, Owen\u2019s, Pay Less Supermarkets, City Market, Dillon\u2019s Food Store\/Marketplace, Baker\u2019s, King Soopers, QFC and Fry\u2019s Food and Drug.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKroger is an essential part of American moms\u2019 lives.
