Now It\u2019s Talking Door-to-Door Confiscation\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4413\">models of firearms<\/a>. Then in 2022, it effectively froze the handgun market. While the Canadian government has suggested a 50 percent participation rate, that figure is based on the number of firearms they budgeted to buy, not the number actually in circulation. Estimates put the number of affected rifles closer to 2 million, while only about 67,000 were turned in. That\u2019s a compliance rate hovering around 3 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the conversation is shifting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the buyback deadline passed, Canadian officials have indicated that <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-mil-leo-only-guns-from-your-favorite-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canada-gun-confiscation-door-to-door\" title=\"Canada Tried a Gun Buyback. Now It\u2019s Talking Door-to-Door Confiscation\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4409\">law enforcement<\/a>, specifically the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, will be tasked with \u201ccollecting\u201d the remaining firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That word is doing a lot of work.  Because when the government knows who owns what, and where they live, \u201ccollection\u201d starts to look a lot like confiscation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOA argues that Canada\u2019s national firearm registry plays a key role here, making it possible for <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/bolt-action-remington-rifle-scope-starting-399-full-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canada-gun-confiscation-door-to-door\" title=\"Canada Tried a Gun Buyback. It\u2019s about the path: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ban certain firearms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expand the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restrict new sales.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Push a buyback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then deal with noncompliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That sequence is what has people paying attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GOA segment also makes another point that\u2019s been echoed for years: laws don\u2019t stop criminals from getting guns. The transcript highlights how criminals in Canada are still reportedly using illegally modified firearms, including handguns outfitted with conversion devices, despite the country\u2019s strict regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So while law-abiding citizens are being told to turn theirs in, the people actually committing violent crimes aren\u2019t exactly lining up.  That disconnect is part of what\u2019s fueling the criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also a resource argument buried in all of this. The takeaway isn\u2019t subtle: this is being framed as a cautionary tale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The argument is that once a government starts down the road of broad firearm restrictions (especially paired with registries), it doesn\u2019t just stop at bans. Enforcement becomes the next step. And enforcement, eventually, means going where the guns are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why GOA continues to push back against gun registries and broader federal gun control efforts, pointing to the Second Amendment\u2019s \u201cshall not be infringed\u201d language as a clear line in the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the segment leans heavily into political engagement: voting, grassroots activism, and holding elected officials accountable.  As a way to prevent similar policies from taking hold in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s really where this lands. Is Canada actually heading toward widespread door-to-door confiscation? That\u2019s still unfolding.
