It ended when NYPD officers confronted Griffin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities say he was acting erratically, repeatedly claiming he was \u201cLucifer,\u201d and ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon. When he advanced toward officers with the machete, police <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/trans-shooter-rhode-island-hockey-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"machete-attack-grand-central\" title=\"Machete Attack at Grand Central\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4129\">opened fire<\/a>, striking him twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-arkansas-hunter-gored-buck-dies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"machete-attack-grand-central\" title=\"Machete Attack at Grand Central\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4128\">later died at the hospital<\/a>.  The victims\u2014an 84-year-old man, a 65-year-old man, and a 70-year-old woman\u2014are expected to survive.  But the incident is already drawing sharp reaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms says the attack highlights what it calls the dangers of \u201cpublic disarmament,\u201d arguing that strict <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/alaskan-bear-rifles\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"machete-attack-grand-central\" title=\"Machete Attack at Grand Central\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4127\">gun<\/a> laws leave citizens unable to defend themselves in moments like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-files-suit-to-protect-4a-rights-of-high-school-gun-owner\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"machete-attack-grand-central\" title=\"Machete Attack at Grand Central\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4125\">Alan Gottlieb<\/a> pointed out that while police ultimately stopped the attacker, the victims had no immediate way to fight back during the initial assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-minute-of-angle-explained-moa-take-the-quiz\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/minute-of-angle-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"machete-attack-grand-central\" title=\"Machete Attack at Grand Central\">Minute of Angle Explained (MOA) \u2013 Take the Quiz!<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>He also noted that the suspect reportedly had prior arrests, raising questions about how someone with a known history was still able to carry out a violent attack in a crowded public space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The broader issue, according to CCRKBA, is response time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their view, when violence erupts suddenly, especially in confined environments like a subway, waiting for <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-mil-leo-only-guns-from-your-favorite-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"machete-attack-grand-central\" title=\"Machete Attack at Grand Central\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4126\">law enforcement<\/a> may not be enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe blood of his victims is on the hands of New York City officials and politicians in Albany who fight to keep their citizens unarmed, and at the mercy of madmen who don\u2019t understand what that word means,\u201d Gottlieb said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three victims were already wounded before police made contact. And that\u2019s where this debate always circles back: What happens in those first critical seconds?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because in places like Grand Central (crowded, fast-moving, and tightly controlled),
