Two bills, <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/bill-details\/20261\/SB749\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\">SB 749<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/VA\/bill\/HB217\/2026\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\">HB 217<\/a>, that would ban a wide range of commonly owned firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Antigunners destroying the Second Amendment in its birthplace\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_PjGmmfE3Fo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re talking <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/browning-bar-mk-4-shot-show-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4088\">semi-auto rifles<\/a>, pistols, and even some shotguns,  Based largely on features like threaded barrels or adjustable stocks.  Standard-capacity magazines are also on the chopping block, with anything over 15 rounds potentially banned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s the key detail: Newly elected Governor Abigail Spanberger has already signaled she\u2019s ready to sign them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a big shift from just a year ago, when former Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed similar efforts.  Different administration. Different outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to GOA, that change is exactly why things are moving so quickly now.  Their argument is pretty straightforward:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These (AR-style platforms) aren\u2019t niche firearms. They\u2019re some of the most commonly owned <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-savage-releases-another-sweet-gun-the-110-high-country-shot-show-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4090\">guns in the country<\/a> used by millions for lawful purposes, including self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And under these proposals, future purchases could effectively turn law-abiding Virginians into criminals overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-gun-shops-flooded-as-virginia-ban-looms\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\">Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>GOA also points to the Supreme Court\u2019s <em>New York State <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/silencerco-omega-36m-centerfire-suppressor\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4087\">Rifle &amp; Pistol<\/a> Association v. Bruen <\/em>decision, arguing that broad bans like this don\u2019t line up with the nation\u2019s historical tradition of firearm regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Translation?  They expect this to end up in court.  They\u2019re already preparing for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group says it\u2019s working with state-level organizations to challenge the legislation the moment it\u2019s signed, framing this as part of a bigger national fight over so-called \u201cassault weapon\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-pushes-supreme-court-to-strike-down-assault-weapons-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4089\">bans<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But before it gets there, they\u2019re pushing for action now, encouraging Virginia residents to contact lawmakers and weigh in before the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/guns-campus-bill-will-become-law-tennessee\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"antigunners-destroying-2a-amendment-birthplace\" title=\"GOA: Antigunners Destroying 2A Amendment in Its Birthplace\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4091\">bills become law<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because if this goes through, it won\u2019t just be another policy shift.
