But it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a breakdown from <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/would-you-shoot-at-car-thieves-outside-your-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"instagram-flex-federal-gun-case-glock-switch\" title=\"Instagram Flex Turns Into Federal Gun Case\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4082\">Colion Noir<\/a>, a man in Alabama is now facing federal gun charges after posting a video to Instagram during a Mardi Gras event and unknowingly handing the feds everything they needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The setup?  A deadly shooting during Joe Cain Day festivities in Mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Man Mocks Murder Victim on Instagram \u2014 Feds Spot Illegal Glock Switch and Arrest Him\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u9WIuvC16lE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of laying low, one guy decided to jump on Instagram and mock the victim, literally acting out how the man died, per <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox10tv.com\/2026\/03\/16\/federal-complaint-gang-video-leads-glock-switch-arrest-mobile\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"instagram-flex-federal-gun-case-glock-switch\" title=\"Instagram Flex Turns Into Federal Gun Case\">FOX 10 News<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bad enough.  But here\u2019s where it gets worse.  Federal agents reviewing the video noticed something on the pistol in his waistband: A Glock switch.  Game over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For anyone unfamiliar, a Glock switch (also called an auto sear) converts a <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/sig-p365-vs-glock-43-vs-sw-shield\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"instagram-flex-federal-gun-case-glock-switch\" title=\"Instagram Flex Turns Into Federal Gun Case\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4084\">semi-auto pistol<\/a> into a fully automatic weapon, which makes it a machine gun under federal law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s not a gray area. Just illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the federal complaint, the case didn\u2019t come from some new enforcement push or <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/gun-control-efforts-expand-in-los-angeles-county-after-monterey-park-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"instagram-flex-federal-gun-case-glock-switch\" title=\"Instagram Flex Turns Into Federal Gun Case\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4086\">expanded gun control effort<\/a>. It came from the video. The guy posted it himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Noir puts it, this wasn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-mil-leo-only-guns-from-your-favorite-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"instagram-flex-federal-gun-case-glock-switch\" title=\"Instagram Flex Turns Into Federal Gun Case\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4083\">law enforcement<\/a> catching a criminal through policy.  It was someone essentially building a case against himself in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s the bigger point.  <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-hog-hunting-40\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"instagram-flex-federal-gun-case-glock-switch\" title=\"Instagram Flex Turns Into Federal Gun Case\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4085\">Stories like this tend to spark calls for more gun<\/a> control.  But in this case, the key piece (the illegal modification) was already banned.  Already enforced.  Already a felony.  The system didn\u2019t fail here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If anything, it worked exactly as designed.  The only reason this situation turned into a federal case?  The suspect made sure everyone could see it.
