Something the lawmakers say raises concerns about diversion into criminal markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the National Shooting Sports Foundation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/sen-warren-rep-meeks-embark-on-gun-control-fishing-expedition\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"warren-targets-u-s-gun-exports\" title=\"Warren Targets U.S. Gun Exports\">NSSF<\/a>) isn\u2019t buying it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a sharp response, NSSF\u2019s Larry Keane says this isn\u2019t about data.  It\u2019s about setting the stage to blame American manufacturers for crimes they didn\u2019t commit.  He\u2019s got numbers to back that up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/why-is-atf-repeatedly-violating-firearm-trace-data-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"warren-targets-u-s-gun-exports\" title=\"Warren Targets U.S. Gun Exports\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4032\">ATF data<\/a> cited by NSSF, firearms recovered at crime scenes overseas that were originally exported from the U.S. make up less than one percent of total exported firearms during the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let that sink in.  Less than one percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-warren-pushes-bill-targeting-military-grade-ammo-sales\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/warren-bill-military-grade-ammo-sales\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"warren-targets-u-s-gun-exports\" title=\"Warren Targets U.S. Gun Exports\">Warren Pushes Bill Targeting \u2018Military-Grade\u2019 Ammo Sales<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, every single firearm export from the U.S. already goes through layers of oversight: State Department, Commerce Department, and a full end-user check by federal enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, this isn\u2019t exactly the Wild West.  So what\u2019s really going on here?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to NSSF, this is the latest move in a broader <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/newsom-goes-on-the-offensive-against-gun-industry-pushing-legislation-to-bankrupt-firearm-makers\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"warren-targets-u-s-gun-exports\" title=\"Warren Targets U.S. Gun Exports\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4034\">push to crack down on the firearms industry<\/a>.  This time by tying it to violence happening outside U.S. borders.  And there\u2019s some history here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warren previously pushed to restrict firearm exports under the Biden administration, which led to a months-long pause and tighter controls. Those policies were later rolled back, reopening the export pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, critics say this new data request looks like an attempt to revisit that fight, just from a different angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also a key detail getting less attention. Not all \u201cU.S.-sourced\u201d firearms in foreign crime reports are what people think. In many cases, those <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-mil-leo-only-guns-from-your-favorite-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"warren-targets-u-s-gun-exports\" title=\"Warren Targets U.S. Gun Exports\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4030\">guns were legally sold to military or law enforcement<\/a> agencies in other countries before being recovered later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a very different story than illegal trafficking.  But nuance doesn\u2019t always make headlines. It\u2019s crime and corruption in the countries where those firearms end up.  Different problem. Different solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the request itself is sweeping.  Covering export licenses, buyers, countries, monitoring efforts, and more, all tied to semi-auto firearms and accessories going back to January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So yeah, this isn\u2019t a quick check-in.  It\u2019s a full-scale data grab.  Whether that turns into policy changes or just more political pressure on the industry remains to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But one thing is clear:  The fight over firearms isn\u2019t just happening at home anymore.  It\u2019s going global.
